Are You Truly Saved? How You Can Know For Sure

I meet many people who think that they are saved, but when we begin a discussion about their salvation, they realize that they are trusting in the wrong things.

Years ago, I took a class on Evangelism Explosion (boy, am I dating myself or what?) and I learned a lot about sharing salvation with the lost. I became an EE trainer.   We would go out in teams and visit people who had visited our church and had noted that they wanted a visit from someone from church.

We would come into their homes, and in a very relaxed way we would make conversion.  After a while, one of us would ask a question. That question was:

“God forbid it, but if you died this night and God asked you why He should let you into His heaven, how would you respond?”

A lot of people would hesitate, but then they would begin to speak about the “good” things they had done in their lives. They would say that they believed that the good things outweighed the bad.  All of their answers would begin with “I.”

But some people would immediately respond:

“I would tell God that the only reason that I should be allowed into heaven, was because of what Jesus had done for me; I have repented and trusted in His death and resurrection for the forgiveness of my sins.”

What would you have responded to this question?  It’s probably the most important question a person will ever be asked.

Let’s look at what the Word of God says about this subject:

Romans 10:9 – That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Emphasis mine)

John 3:16-17 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Acts 4:12 – Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

John 3:5 – Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

These passages of Scripture are just a few. There are many other Scriptures which tell us how we can be saved and know that we will be in heaven when we die.

There are people who reject these Scriptures, and insist that their good works are enough to get them into heaven.  Here is what God says of our so-called “good works.”

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away” (Isaiah 64:6).

Jesus Paid It All

If you have been in church for a while, I’m sure that you have sung this wonderful hymn – Jesus paid it all.  Listen:

Only Jesus can save you. Nothing you do is good enough to get you into heaven. Knowing this should be so comforting to you. I know that it is to me.

If you have never trusted the Lord for the forgiveness of your sins, here is something that will help you:

How Can I Be Saved?

I pray that many who have been searching for the truth, will finally come home to Jesus. He waits with arms opened wide.
