“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
As believers in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we have read that passage of Scripture so many times. I wonder though if we truly understand what God is saying in those words. Read the first three words: “If my people.” Let me say that again with my emphasis ” If my people.” Do you see that? The Lord is talking to His people – not to the lost ones, but to the ones who claim to be born again and call Him their Lord and Savior.
Should we Christians care about elections and those who are running in them? And if we do care about the people running, how should we make up our minds as to whom will get our vote? Seems confusing at times, doesn’t it? But I will show you in this article that it’s not confusing at all. To children of God, this process should be as simple as breathing.
I am meeting many Evangelicals who are saying that Trump is our last chance. What I say to them is this: “I would rather vote for the person who truly loves the Lord and displays His principles and values in their voting record.” I will hear arguments that we need someone like Donald Trump to “save” America. REALLY? The only One who can save America is Jesus Christ.
When I stand before Jesus one day, I want Him to be proud of me for standing on His Word when it came to choosing a candidate. And you know what? Those of us who want Ted Cruz because of his love for the Lord, and his consistent conservative voting record, will not be disappointed – EVEN if he loses. God will know that we did this for Him. He is in control of everything. He can do anything He wants to do. We should be where He wants us to be and do what He wants us to do.
I’ve heard others say “We are not voting for pastor of America – we are voting for the president. If we have the chance to vote for a godly, Jesus loving man for president, then there is no gray area. We SHOULD vote for the godly man!
From gotquestions.org:
Does God Expect Christians to Vote?
Answer: It is our contention that it is the duty and responsibility of every Christian to vote and to vote for leaders who promote Christian principles. God is most certainly in control, but that does not mean we should do nothing to further His will. We are commanded to pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-4). In terms of politics and leadership, there is evidence in Scripture that God has been displeased with our choices of leadership at times (Hosea 8:4). The evidence of sin’s grip on this world is everywhere. Much of the suffering on earth is because of godless leadership (Proverbs 28:12). Scripture gives Christians instructions to obey legitimate authority unless it contradicts the Lord’s commands (Acts 5:27-29; Romans 13:1-7). As born-again believers, we ought to strive to choose leaders who will be themselves led by our Creator (1 Samuel 12:13-25). Candidates or proposals that violate the Bible’s commands for life, family, marriage, or faith should never be supported (Proverbs 14:34). Christians should vote as led through prayer and study of both God’s Word and the realities of the choices on the ballot.
Christians in many countries in this world are oppressed and persecuted. They suffer under governments they are powerless to change and governments that hate their faith and silence their voices. These believers preach the gospel of Jesus Christ at risk of their own lives. In the U.S.A., Christians have been blessed with the right to speak about and choose their leaders without fearing for themselves or their families. In the U.S.A., in recent elections, about 2 of every 5 of self-professed Christians took that right for granted and did not vote. About 1 in 5 self-professed, eligible Christians are not even registered to vote.
In our day and age, there are many who want to drive the name and message of Christ completely out of the public arena. Voting is an opportunity to promote, protect, and preserve godly government. Passing up that opportunity means letting those who would denigrate the name of Christ have their way in our lives. The leaders we elect—or do nothing to remove—have great influence on our freedoms. They can choose to protect our right to worship and spread the gospel, or they can restrict those rights. They can lead our nation toward righteousness or toward moral disaster. As Christians, we should stand up and follow our command to fulfill our civic duties (Matthew 22:21). -source
I really love “gotquestions.org” and I think that on this topic they totally nailed it.
Brethren, don’t vote with your emotions. Vote the Bible. Don’t think to yourself that this one or that one surely will save us from destruction. Think about the Lord and for whom He would have you cast your vote.
We all know the story of David And Goliath. But read it again here, and this time think about the Lord, and how He sent David to slay this wicked giant. Is anything too hard for our God?
“Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, kept coming closer to David. He looked David over and saw that he was little more than a boy, glowing with health and handsome, and he despised him. He said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. “Come here,” he said, “and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and the wild animals!”
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day theLord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.
As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.
So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him” ( 1 Samuel 17:41-50).
The battle IS the Lord’s. Will we stand with Him? Will we humble ourselves and turn from our wicked ways? I pray that a miracle will happen, and that He will hear us from heaven, and heal our land.
Shalom b’Yeshua
