I Believe the Bible/It is Written

“Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those, who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word, delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed” (Luke 1:1-4).

My dear friend Pastor John had this basic outline of why he believed the Bible.

There are some very excellent reasons to read and believe the Bible, God’s Word:

  1. The most important reason is that the recorded words are true! In whatever the Bible records, its words have been clearly substantiated. Whether it speaks of history or prophecy, in narrative or poetry, whether written 3,500 years ago or 1,900 years ago – – the record is true to reality!
  2. If the Bible is not true, man has no sure word from God. He is hopelessly lost in the quagmire of multiple religious cacophonies.
  3. A great indicator of the Bible’s veracity is it’s pronouncements regarding the nation of Israel. Thousands of years ago God promised that there would always be a remnant of His people, the Jews, and that someday in the future they would forever possess their land. In other words, for all eternity, there will be a remnant of believing Jews. God says so and that’s final. (Humanly speaking, they could have easily been extinct by now; but God’s Word is true)!
  4. I believe the Bible because it is the only book that offers me comfort, hope    and everlasting life as no other belief or book can. Paul wrote in Romans 15:4, “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.”

The Lesson by example:

Of all religions and pantheons, the world has out there. Why is it that ONLY the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob, the God of Moses, and the Prophets, the God of King David, is the ONE true God? Quite provably I’ll add. It is because all these things were written and verified throughout history? Is it because the Prophets and all they had written came to and is coming to pass with 100% accuracy? I’m not going into an apologetic on the validity of the scriptures herein but will share a lesson Jesus taught us. As once an Army NCO the tenants of leadership are to lead by example. Jesus certainly led by example. By HIS example let s imitate Him. Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. (Ephesians 5:1)

You see, this God stepped out of eternity in a human body to save us. His name literally means Salvation from God (Yeshua) By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, (1 John 4:2)

Once here He was tempted in all ways: For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)

Here is the kicker. While being tempted in the wilderness: Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. (Matthew 4:1). Every response from His was “IT IS WRITTEN”. Are you picking up what I’m putting down here? Jesus (GOD Himself) could have easily unmade the devil. He could have decided banish the devil with one word. BUT He did not. Yet He quoted scripture. Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” (Matthew 4:3–4)

Why is this scripture so powerful? Because it is the WORD of God and this WORD has a Name. Jesus Christ. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16)

You see, the Bible is not just a dusty old book written by men of fables and myth. YET, it is the living breathing Word of Almighty God. To be sure it was penned by men. NOTE however these men were inspired by God and what they wrote was God Breathed. The word “Inspiration” is translated from the Greek theopneustos Literally meaning divinely breathed in given by inspiration of God.

As believers in Yeshua, we must endeavor use His example in every aspect of life. One such aspect is to use the scriptures in all circumstances we face. Be they health issues, grief, anger, anxieties, fears, persecutions, and all temptations and struggles with the flesh. Not only those negative conditions, but also for edification, comforting, counseling, teaching, and in all service to the Kingdom. Remember the Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit. Wield it often, wield it correctly!

Shalom,

Brian
