As believers in Christ, having the Holy Spirit indwelling us; we should be able to discern spiritual matters. Why is it then that so many of the church are easily deceived? Later on in this piece, I will speak of the need for brothers and sisters in Christ to learn to discern the News presented to us as truth, but is not.
Spiritual Discernment
A case in point: I met a woman who is a friend of my sister’s and the woman is a believer. She talks about the Lord a lot, and about His Word. She attends a Baptist church near her home, and my sister has even gone to church with her.
One day she texted me that she was so excited because the women from church were beginning a study from a book written by Beth Moore. I stared at the text for a minute and thought about how I was to respond. I’m not close with this woman – only met her when I visited my sister. The woman is also a doctor, as is her husband. I chose to change the subject but then felt like I had let the Lord down.
But sometimes I think that the Lord would have us pick our battles. As I get to know this woman, I will feel more comfortable in sharing truth with her.
Beth Moore
This is taken from an article I wrote about Beth Moore last year:
“Beth Moore: False Teacher Leading Many Astray”
“Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee” (Ezekiel 28:17).
Of course, we know that this passage of Scripture speaks of Lucifer, the most beautiful of all of God’s angels. Why am I beginning this article with this Scripture? I want the reader to understand that “beauty” has led many down a road to destruction.
Beth Moore is a beautiful woman. She is a very charismatic person. She attracts people. She attracts Christian women who attend her seminars. But just as Satan spoke to Eve in the Garden, Beth Moore speaks to women all over the world, and like Satan, she is twisting the Word of God. Beth Moore is not rightly dividing the Word of Truth. She is dangerous.
Contemplative Prayer
From gotquestions.org
What is Contemplative prayer?
Answer: It is important to first define “contemplative prayer.” Contemplative prayer is not just “contemplating while you pray.” The Bible instructs us to pray with our minds (1 Corinthians 14:15), so, clearly, prayer does involve contemplation. However, praying with your mind is not what “contemplative prayer” has come to mean. Contemplative prayer has slowly increased in practice and popularity along with the rise of the emerging church movement—a movement which embraces many unscriptural ideas and practices. Contemplative prayer is one such practice.
Contemplative prayer begins with “centering prayer,” a meditative practice where the practitioner focuses on a word and repeats that word over and over for the duration of the exercise. The purpose is to clear one’s mind of outside concerns so that God’s voice may be more easily heard. After the centering prayer, the practitioner is to sit still, listen for direct guidance from God, and feel His presence.
Although this might sound like an innocent exercise, this type of prayer has no scriptural support whatsoever. In fact, it is just the opposite of how prayer is defined in the Bible. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6). “In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete” (John 16:23-24). These verses and others clearly portray prayer as being comprehendible communication with God, not an esoteric, mystical meditation.
Contemplative prayer, by design, focuses on having a mystical experience with God. Mysticism, however, is purely subjective, and does not rely upon truth or fact. Yet the Word of God has been given to us for the very purpose of basing our faith, and our lives, on Truth (2 Timothy 3:16-17). What we know about God is based on fact; trusting in experiential knowledge over the biblical record takes a person outside of the standard that is the Bible.
Contemplative prayer is no different than the meditative exercises used in Eastern religions and New Age cults. Its most vocal supporters embrace an open spirituality among adherents from all religions, promoting the idea that salvation is gained by many paths, even though Christ Himself stated that salvation comes only through Him (John 14:6). Contemplative prayer, as practiced in the modern prayer movement, is in opposition to biblical Christianity and should definitely be avoided. – source
Beth Moore teaches that Contemplative prayer is good and right. She is part of the Emergent Church movement. This ungodly movement is filled with New Age beliefs and practices. Contemplative prayer is encouraged in these churches. Watch Beth Moore as she leads people into this mystical practice:
Did you see how many thousands of people this woman is misleading? The enemy of our souls is using Beth Moore to bring lies to the church; and many believe her lies to be truth. She seldom uses Scripture, but when she does, she twists it to give credence to her words.
Did you see that Beth Moore recommends “Jesus Calling?” I wrote an article about this New Age book which many believers rave over and recommend to their friends.
Article on New Age Roots of Jesus Calling
Watch Justin Peters speak about Jesus Calling and Beth Moore:
And yes, I know that Justin Peters is a Calvinist. I don’t agree with Calvinism but did you know that Charles Spurgeon was also a Calvinist? His sermons were brilliant and he was called the “Prince of Preachers.”
Beth Moore and her extra Biblical Visions
Beth Moore believes that God gave her a vision that all of Christendom will come together (that includes Roman Catholics) She is pushing this ecumenical view more and more:
Roman Catholicism is a “works based” religion. It is NOT Christianity. There may be some in the Catholic church who have come into a relationship with Jesus and are born again – but their salvation could not have come from the teaching of their priests! Those evangelicals who are returning to Rome are SO deceived!
Ecumenism will be the One World Religion – did you know that?
Beth Moore also teaches that the churches which are rabidly anti-Israel i.e. Lutheran, Methodist, Episcopalian (and others)- are part of the body of Christ. It is her belief that ALL of the denominations are part of His body. This is outright heresy! She is deceived and she is deceiving millions of people! – source
Satan described in God’s Word
“But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ” (2 Corinthians 11:3).
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).
Discerning Fake News
Being in the last days, we should understand that deception abounds everywhere – not just in the church. This is Satan’s specialty!
If you were fooled by a video which has drawn over 8 million viewers – don’t feel condemned or foolish – just use this as a time to wake up and realize that deception is EVERYWHERE.
I am speaking of a video that many Christians on FB believed was real – a video which appears to be Mark Zuckerberg. Many Christian friends sent this video to me.
The very first time I watched it, I knew something was not right. I thought to myself “This is not Mark Zuckerberg.” I remembered that Zuckerberg (the owner of Facebook) had just appeared before Congress about gathering the data from FB members. I went to the video of him speaking to the Congress and compared his voice to the voice of the man in the mysterious video.
I heard a very “nasal” voice in Mark Zuckerberg when he spoke before Congress. The man in the video (although he could pass for Zuckerberg by his looks) did not have the same voice – not at all.
I began to search the net to see if credible websites had marked this video as Fake. I found numerous sites, saying that this video was fake and that the person in it was an actor – NOT Mark Zuckerberg.
Here is the video:
It is absolutely fake but quite hard to discern. This video reminded me of how the Antichrist will most likely use Social Media to speak to the world. Most of his viewers will be deceived into believing that he has come in peace, and will lead mankind into a long awaited world peace. The lost will not be able to discern that the man on the video is indwelled by Satan himself!
In these end days, be aware that what you see cannot be casually taken as truth without vetting it thoroughly. But we also must ask God for more discernment!
Brethren, any of us are able to be fooled. But those of us who have the Holy Spirit have a great advantage over the lost as far as the discerning of spirits. It is listed among the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in God’s Word!
Shalom b’Yeshua
MARANATHA!
