We have been searching for a Bible based church. For a long time, my husband and I have been worshiping from home; watching pastors and preachers whom we have come to trust and love via Youtube. We do miss fellowship and we are aware that God wants us to be in fellowship with other believers.
For the last two Sundays we visited a Baptist church. This church ordains women as pastors. The head pastor is a man. We do not believe that the Word of God supports women being pastors.
Knowing that we will probably not find a church where we agree on every point, we know that some things are essential, while others are non-essential to salvation. I have often spoken of the slippery slope in many of my articles that leadership finds itself on when they stray from the Word. It is inevitable.
A baby was being dedicated on the first Sunday we visited the new church. A book was presented to the parents of the baby. The name of the book was Jesus Calling. I had read about this book, and knew that it was very controversial, but I had no idea how wrong this book was for any Christian to be reading.
I know that this article is going to upset many people who have come to love Jesus Calling. My job as a writer is to speak truth. I have no control over the readers’ reaction, but I must speak truth; and hopefully I will reach some Christians with the truth. I pray that this piece will help many to see that Jesus Calling is not a book that Jesus would have them read.
Jesus Calling is a New Age mystical book which Christians should completely avoid.
SOLA SCRIPTURA
From gotquestions.org
Question: “What is sola scriptura?”
Answer: The phrase sola scriptura is from the Latin: sola having the idea of “alone,” “ground,” “base,” and the word scriptura meaning “writings”—referring to the Scriptures. Sola scriptura means that Scripture alone is authoritative for the faith and practice of the Christian. The Bible is complete, authoritative, and true. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). [1]
It says in Timothy 3:16, that all Scripture is God-breathed. Just as He breathed life into Adam, He breathed the Words of the Bible – penned by men, but under His inspiration. It is so vitally important for the believer to read God’s Word. It is food for the soul. God speaks to us through His Word.
Have you ever read a verse of Scripture that you have read many times before, but suddenly the words just jumped off the page and into your heart? God was speaking to you through His Word, and helping you with whatever you were going through at that particular time.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12)
JESUS CALLING
The author of this book, Sarah Young, modeled her book after God Calling, a book written in the early 1930s. This book was written by two “listeners” who said that they would come into the presence of God and begin to write what they thought He was saying. It is a New Age practice called automatic writing. The New Age followers believe that they are channeling spirits who impart knowledge to them. We know that these so-called spirits are demons.
Isn’t it just like Satan to deceive the children of God? In Jesus Calling, Sarah Young also claims that she came into God’s presence and listened and then wrote what she felt He was saying to her. She writes as if Jesus Himself is speaking.
Doesn’t it make you wonder who was saying the things for Miss Young to write? I have skimmed through many of the writings in this book, and on the surface they seem innocuous. But I have wondered why so many millions of Christians would resort to reading this book, when we have the Word of God. Why do they need more? Who is whispering to them that they need more?
I see that Sarah Young now has a book out for children, and even a Jesus Calling bible! This alarms me, and makes me wonder why so many Christians lack discernment. It is obvious to me that Satan is confusing and deceiving God’s children. But if these same people would read the Word of God, they would see that everything they need to know is right there in His Word!
Harper Collins publishes “Jesus Calling” books. Harper Collins also publishes the Satanic Bible. Coincidence? I think not.
Back to the church that my husband and I visited; we had the pastor come to our home to speak with us about some of our concerns. I had already told him about being alarmed that the church would present Jesus Calling to the parents of a baby being dedicated. When we began to speak with him about this, he shut us down by saying that his wife loves Jesus Calling and that all of these books bring her peace. So, the book is okay because his wife loves it? I was speechless.
I began to connect the dots. I thought to myself that this pastor believes that it is okay to ordain women as pastors, and he was influenced by his wife about the spiritual legitimacy of Jesus Calling. My mind traveled back to the Scriptures about the Garden of Eden. It was Eve who was deceived by Satan. Adam sinned willfully. I believe that he did this because of his love for Eve. He put her above God.
If this pastor believed the Word of God, and studied it as any pastor should, he would have seen the error of his ways. God would have spoken to him through His Word. But instead he did what he thought was right.
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12).
WARREN SMITH ON JESUS CALLING
Warren Smith wrote a book entitled Another Jesus Calling. In this insightful book, Mr. Smith asks the question “Is this really our Savior speaking?” I would encourage any readers of this article, who are defensive about Sarah Young’s book, to purchase Another Jesus Calling. Warren Smith believes (as I do) that this is just part of the Emerging Church movement, where contemplative prayer and eastern mediation is encouraged.
Please pass this article on to anyone you know who is reading Jesus Calling. I pray that the Lord will bring many away from this counterfeit book and back into His book – the Bible.
Blessings in Yeshua

I totally agree with you on this book! I have grave concerns with the direction today’s “church” is going. The apostasy is in full swing 🙁
Amen!
I too have been questioning everything & how my church is changing & not for good, But I came into the Kingdom on my own so that’s not a concern, I know My Lord will keep me, The only one that is feeding me at the moment is The Lord, & Jimmy Swaggart ministries, & they are 24/7 + they are a media church! I love to be in worship & am commited to find a church that is spirit filled, but I also know in this present age they are few & far between!
It is a scary thing to have to visit churches right now. It used to be that you could go into a Baptist church most anywhere and feel safe!
My wife and I discovered that some dear friends (husband and wife) were using Jesus Calling as a daily devotional. Using Warren B. Smith’s material we were able to get them away from it. They were only two people, however! Everywhere we go we find Christians being deceived by this book and many other New Age books, authors and contemplative prayer. The local Lifeway Christian (not!) bookstore has racks full of Jesus Calling junk. It is very disheartening as it is running rampant throughout so many churches. We too have found it very difficult to find a church that sticks to the Bible.
Lighthouse Trails has a new tract from Warren B. Smith, “Changing Jesus Calling.” This tract explains how Thomas Nelson publishing and Sarah Young have been slowly removing and/or changing controversial material in “Jesus Calling.”
I thank God for you and your writings. I look everyday to see if you have written something new. Your writings are now one of my benchmarks where I go to find out what is really going on.
Always for Christ,
Dennis
Amen, brother Dennis! May God bless you for your obedience and for caring for others as you do.
I glanced through Jesus Calling at a local store and could handle about two minutes, max. It flummoxed me that someone wrote in Jesus’s voice, and actually expected me to believe that He was talking to me through her book. Seriously, if we need human mediators, then what function is the Holy Spirit in individual believer’s lives?
For all the millions and millions of people who call themselves Christians, few walk the narrow, difficult path of reading Scripture for themselves, praying, and seeking the wisdom to understand God in His word and in His world. They need pop culture books, pastors interpreting everything for them, well-heeled evangelists whose central message is that listeners send in money so that the “ministry” can continue.
But this is just an outgrowth of our peer-centric culture, in which we are taught, from the beginning, to sit at the desk, shut up, and listen to what we are told. And then, out on the playground, the other children make sure that the message sticks, and that we do not ask questions or seek a different way of doing things.
Well said!
John 14:15-17 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.
This scripture explains why you are able to see the deception of “Jesus Calling” and why
it bewildered and perplexed you. The spirit of truth does things like that.
Thank you for sharing the problems with this book.
It is of great interest and concern to me that the body of Christ was equally absorbed in Rick Warrens’ masterpiece of deception “The Purpose Driven Church” and other of his writings. We live in a church age that is flooded with spiritual infants who are ignorant of the Word of God. They are encouraged by people like Rick Warren and Sarah Young and the Prosperity teachers who are so prominent in evangelical circles.
The Word of God must have precedence and yet many pulpits in our nation are filled with pastors who are more than willing to water down the Word of God to please their congregation and allow much in the body of Christ that is a stench in the nostrils of God.
Only a Holy Spirit led revival will bring God into focus in a church that has lost it’s way at a time when the world needs to hear a sure voice calling people from all walks of life to repentance and faith in Christ alone.
Thank you for this timely article. It is much needed in a time when Christians are being led astray by the millions and deluded into thinking they are alright with God and are not. When push comes to shove they will find that their venerated leaders have offered them nothing of substance and they will have no strength for the time of testing that is sure to come to them.
– The churches teaches the whole ‘bible’ as the scriptures.
This is just one ‘false doctrine’ of churches. Which many others pivot from.
After all, church leaders must keep control of the sheep in building ministries
on the backs of the sheep.
If you will do a complete study of the words ‘scripture’ and ‘scriptures’ in the bible?
You will find as have I, that
the only time Jesus and His Disciples spoke of scriptures is
when they were referring to or quoting what the Prophets of God wrote.
That’s right, not everything everyone wrote of through their epistles
would be considered as scripture by Jesus and His Disciples.
Unless they were speaking of what The Prophets Of God said.
– So yes, God breathed into Adam but neither did it didn’t make him infallible nor inerrant.
Yes, all scripture is even profitable for Doctrine. But not even All Scripture Is Doctrine.
Don’t believe me? Then believe Paul himself as he proves it by his own epistle.
1Cor.15:4-8
Jesus rose the 3rd day according to the scriptures and
He was seen
BY Cephas,
THEN By The 12
AFTER THAT By Over 500 brethren
AFTER THAT BY James
THEN By All The Apostles
THEN LAST OF ALL He was seen By Me (paul).
– Now I ask you, Who Was THE FIRST To See Jesus when He rose the 3rd day?
Mary Magdalene of course. – John 20:14-18
So not only didn’t Paul mention Mary as The First to see Jesus
but Paul didn’t mention Mary At All.
And we have been taught that everything Paul wrote is God breathed scripture (?)
– Another thing we have been taught is that
the apostle Paul was The Apostle who brought the gospel to the Gentiles.
Not so. As it was well known among them that
the Key Master The Apostle Peter opened the door for Paul to minister the gospel to the gentiles. Acts 15:7
– Paul said, Jesus Christ is ‘The Second Adam’ “The Last Adam’.
And us as being The Body Of Christ Jesus brings us back into right standing with God
as before the fall.
– 1Tim.2:11,12 About women Paul said,
I Do Not Permit A Woman to Teach or have Authority over a man.
Paul didn’t say, God did not permit a woman to teach of have authority over a man.
Remember Paul believed women of Jesus’ church was to still be under The Law. 1Cor.14:34
– Church leaders will point out that there was not to be any women pastors in the church.
But what they would tell you is that the first Prophet to Jesus was not John the baptist.
But the first Prophet to Jesus was in fact a Woman, The Prophet Anna who proclaimed Redemption through Jesus Christ to all who came to Jerusalem looking for Redemption.
The Prophet Anna served God in His Temple day and night. Not by cooking and cleaning for the Priests either. – Luke 2:36
Yes God had many Women Prophets.
So when Paul said Prophets in the church held 2nd place? – 1Cor.12:28
It means Prophets trump Pastors who are 3rd in the church.

I have enjoyed your article. I like that you saw right away that the pastors wife had become the head of the pastor instead of Christ. Sometimes there is an over reaction to the way females are handled in what I’ll call man’s church buildings.
1Co 11:3 But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.
This scripture is a specific answer for a specific problem, not meant to rationalize what man today wants to believe is correct. What of the women that has no husband? Christ is the head of everyone. Ana was in the temple but God appointed men to be priest at the time. Today there are no temple priest/pastors. We are all priest and Christ is our high priest. There is no Temple/church building, there is not one stone left. The building was destroyed for a reason. Yet man in his wisdom has rebuilt the entire hierarchy system despite what Christ said.
Mark 10:42-44 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all.
Paul didn’t say a women cannot be a pastor, there were no pastors then. It is man that has created a system where people are put in authority over others. It is also man that uses the bible to rationalize any and all manner of behavior today. (Just as then)
You and your husband are better off staying away from the man made church system. There is no example in the New Testament of what we call pastor, church or any of the other religious trappings believers have been taught are correct. The finances are not there for man’s church operation without the false preaching of the tithe system. The search for a bible believing church is like voting for a good politician today, it cannot be done and you will only be settling for something. Find like minded believers and fellowship. If there are no like minded believers spend some time in the desert, Moses was there for about 80 years of his life we can handle it for a while.
followhimsite,
I agree with your comment posted on 26-08-2016. I too do not recognise the structured church system or institutionalised religion or of all of man made traditions as being the true church. I am a believer and follower of Jesus but I have not been a part of that system for many years and I fellowship with those I have been led to recently often on sites such as these. There is no where for me to go that is near to me that is standing in the truth of The Word of God. I am outside of the camp but I am not alone . I recognise that more and more are coming out now called by the Lord to leave and be The Church, The Bride of Christ, those that worship in Spirit and Truth and look to their Head Jesus Christ in all things. The Living Stones of The True Church that He is building.
The wilderness is somewhere I am familiar with and for many years I was there in isolation but now I am in communication with others in The Lord and I too watch preachers and teachers on You Tube and The Holy Spirit guides me and I know I am given wisdom and discernment to know those that are speaking truth. If it isn’t I just can’t absorb what they teach and it just the same if I try and read a book written by someone professing to be a christian but is not writing truth then I can’t absorb from the pages , nothing sinks in. I believe it is God’s protection and is because I have thrown myself totally on Jesus relying on only Him to bring me through all these years and keep me from the deceptions and delusions that abound in the so called churches and the world.
When I am weak He is strong and The Holy Spirit is given as my Comforter and my Guide into all truth. I have been broken and left with no confidence in the flesh throughout these wilderness years , I would not have been able to survive and keep the faith all this time alone if it was not for Him my Lord and Saviour Jesus.
He is the Good Shepherd and His sheep hear His voice and will follow no other!
Maranatha!

The story of Adam and Eve is a parable. Jesus even said He speaks in parables. The apostle Paul says the letter kills while the spirit is life. The blind leading the blind these people.
“How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
and fools hate knowledge?
I searched high and low Lord and found none of them that speak the truth.
Truly the Lord is justified when he cast these people out for they are without faith.
The story of Adam and Eve is part of the story of Creation – which is NOT a parable. It is to be taken literally.

“God wants us to be in fellowship with other believers”
Having sat in the seats of the institutional church I found it hard to understand Hebrews 10:25 because there was no church when that scripture was written. The below link for me clears up the haunting of “You need to be in church” syndrome engrained in most of us.

Great post. I appreciate your faithfulness to the Truth and your boldness in declaring it. As one who strayed away from Jesus and the teaching of the Bible, I understand your concern about the blindness and downright heresy that are taught from today´s pulpit. After spending 14 years in the Occult, New Age teachings and practices. The Lord rescued me and I have been warning believers for 35 years about the dangers of Metaphysical, Eastern yoga, meditation technique that lead to the worship of demons that have infiltrated churches and deceived many into believing the lies of the enemies. Here is a link to my blog: http://thelightseed.blogspot.com
May the Lord Jesus gives you wisdom, strength and protection as you serve HIm faithfully. You can use any of my writings and testimonies, if you would like. Sincerely, your brother in Christ.

Excellent! I was given that book for my birthady from a very well meaning friend- I had to do the duty of sharing information with her so she would know the truth – she was very receptive and had no idea.
I purchased a pamphlet from Lighthouse Research to share- and have extras that I have had to use!
Jesus calling is huge!
