GOD’S PRICELESS GIFT by William Oldham

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son to it. The gift of Jesus to us is priceless. Jesus is like a multi-faceted diamond; so many sides of beauty to look at. When we take a good look at Jesus, there are so many priceless things He is to us. Isaiah gives us four names for Jesus that are beyond compare, but I’m going to look at a few others.

Savior. “There is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior…” Luke 2:11 God so loved the world that He sent His Son into this world to save us. Save us from condemnation and judgment by washing away all our sin with His own precious blood; and making us clean and acceptable before our God.

Shepherd. “I am the good shepherd…My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish…” John 10:11, 27-28 David, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, wrote the 23rd Psalm. The first verse says it all: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” The remaining five verses are a commentary on why that is true. The total care, their provision and protection, of God’s people is laid totally on the shoulders of Jesus, until He safely ushers us into our Father’s eternal home

Elder Brother. “…Those whom God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:29 Through His death, burial and resurrection, Jesus was given all power. It is the power of God that brings us to life through the new birth. In that new birth we are born into the family of God as His sons and daughters.

High Priest. “…Jesus is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25 In our Christian walk, we falter and fail, and sometimes we wander off and sin. But thank God, we have One who is always present to intercede for us, pray for us, and restore us back to where we need to be.

Friend. “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you.” John 15:13-14 “…There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24 “What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear…can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our every weakness, take it to the Lord in prayer.” Great is His faithfulness!

King. “…On His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING of kings, and LORD of lords.” Revelation 19:16 The end plans of God for this age and the age to come are plainly inscribed upon the pages of God’s holy word. Jesus Christ left this world with the marks of the spikes and spear. He will return to this earth with those marks and with a crown on His head.

As THE KING, He will gather His people to Himself and will destroy all the enemies of God. He will sit in judgment on the wicked at the great white-throned judgment. Heaven and earth will pass away. A new heaven and earth will appear, along with New Jerusalem. And King Jesus, with His saints, shall rule and reign forevermore.

THANKS BE UNTO GOD FOR HIS UNSPEAKABLE GIFT!

Absolutely! Praise God for Jesus Christ, His Son, and all He has given us through Him and His sacrifice. I know I am jolly grateful, and I can hardly wait to meet Him 🙂
