Back on October 25th I went to the ER with a severe bladder infection. I was given a script for antibiotics which knocked the infection out of me – and that was that – or so I thought………

A couple of weeks ago, I was having very sharp pains in my stomach which radiated to my back.  On the 19th of this month I went to an urgent care place about these pains.

The doctor there looked at my results from the ER visit on October 25 and was alarmed. She showed me that a test was done called ‘Lipase’ and it was 714. Normal for this test is 16-65. The ER had discharged me without mentioning the Lipase test. The doctor at urgent care insisted that I go back to the ER. She said this was very serious.

Tim and I went back to the Hopkins ER and they did what seemed like every test known to man.  But after a few hours, the attending ER doctor spoke to us and said that he was very upset that they had discharged me on October 25th without addressing the Lipase number. He said that number showed severe Pancreatitis.

I was told that my Pancreatitis came on because of gallbladder stones which had passed into my pancreas. The attending told me that he made an appointment with a general surgeon for the 20th and I had to keep this appointment.

I saw the surgeon. He told me that he needed to take my gallbladder out. I asked if this could wait till after the holidays. He said yes but if I had another attack, he would meet me in the ER and remove my gallbladder on an emergency basis.  I agreed.

My Lipase has come down to 26 as of the 19th which is good news, but this morning I’m not feeling great.

Would you please pray that I will know when and if I should return to the ER?

    Oh my goodness! I’m horrified at the ER not addressing the issue right then but I know our Lord knows your needs of health and healing. Lifting you in prayer 🙏

    Praying for you and for the doctors to be able to help you. I would suggest a gallbladder detox before considering having your gallbladder taken out.

  8. My wife suffered for almost two years before going Home in April. I kept praying for a miracle while she kept praying for me to accept God’s will for her life. I am praying that we all go Home before you need any further medical attention. I’m also praying that are pain-free. Love you Dear!

      Hi Geri praying for wisdom for you as well. I think at the least you should call this surgeons office and tell them your symptoms. Do you have something scheduled if you are able to wait? I hope so. You are loved immensely, and not just by our Heavenly Father!

      1. Carol, my surgery is scheduled for Jan 2 – I asked the surgeon if that was okay because I didn’t want the surgery to interfere with the holidays. I have to rest for 2 weeks post surgery. I see how foolish that was now. The surgeon said he would meet me at the ER and do the surgery early, but am I putting myself at risk by waiting?

    I’m SO sorry you are going through this! Praying that you feel better today, and will be able to wait for the surgery and not have an another attack before the holidays. God hears and answers the prayers of the saints. Still praying for your 3 children as well. Titus 2:13

    Dear Geri, I think you should return to the ER and end up in the OR. I’m a physician, and I’m quite sure you need to have your gall bladder taken out. Pancreatitis can be very serious. Praying for you!

    Praying for you. I know how bad gallbladder pain is. I had mine out immediately. Kind of hoping you do the same because what if another stone enters your pancreas, that is nothing to mess with. May God give you wisdom.

    1. Many people including a doctor have said not to put off the surgery. Tim and I are praying about this. The surgeon did tell me that if I come in to the ER with another attack, he would come to the hospital and do the surgery.

    Geri, I am praying for you that God gives you widom and discernment regarding your gall bladder to be removed, and I too also believe you should have your gall bladder removed because the stones could move again and pass into your pancreatitis. I had a pancreatitis failure and it was excuciating and almost died. I will be praying for you and that you will have the gall bladder remove.

    1. I am so thankful that many of you have said that I should not put this surgery off till Jan 2. I think that we should go into the ER tomorrow and the surgeon will meet us there and do the surgery. Thank you again, Marie 🙂

  27. Hello Geri. I have to agree with the increasing number of people suggesting you go ahead with this important surgery. I’m in a similar situation right now with a hernia operation I’ve been putting off for years. I re-injured it badly about 6 weeks ago. They had to pump me full of strong biotics.

    I’ve recently had a complete scan with ”contrast” to assess what’s exactly going on. I too wanted to put this surgery off, especially right here at the holidays. The surgeon suggested I take care of this sooner rather than later. He said that if I continue to delay this, I too could land in the ER with severe complications.

    I’m scheduled for December 3rd. I just felt the Holy Spirit’s prompting to go ahead and not delay this any longer. I’m now 72 years of age. I’m also my wife’s caregiver. I’m not going to be doing her any good if I don’t handle this NOW . She is the love of my life.

    Geri, I hope this helps a little bit. May the Lord send His angels to surround you, Tim, and your entire family. May he guide your surgeon’s hand during this procedure. Your family needs you, and your loyal readers need you.

    Geri I will be praying for you! I totally agree with the Dr! I’m an RN and worked 32 years in the MICU. Pancreatitis can be very, very serious! Better to take care of it sooner than later! Good that you are going into the ER tomorrow. Definitely go to the ER sooner if you have worsening symptoms!! I will be holding you up in prayer!!

    Geri, I just want to echo the above. Pancreatitis is nothing to mess around with. I had a laparoscopic cholecystectomy last year and am so glad I did. Go ahead and get it out and you will feel better. It’s not worth the risk of infection nor do you want to have an open cholecystectomy- the recovery from that would be horrible. I will be praying for you that you will have a skilled surgeon and a quick recovery. Tim will be a fantastic nurse I am sure! ❤️🙏🏻

    I had my gallbladder out some years ago and it was one of the easier surgerys that I have had, just to let you know so you can rest a bit about it. I will pray for you and your recovery. Hang in there and know the Lord is with you!

    Hi Geri I see a couple of emails from you, does that mean you are waiting until after the holidays to get your surgery. Been praying please give an update when you’re able.

    1. Yes, I am waiting till the beginning of January. They did another CT Scan of my gallbladder & pancreas and the doctor said that they both look stable. But he also said that because the number of lipase was so high (714) that I’m at risk of that happening again. For right now, the January date is ok.

      1. I didn’t mean to delay but my suggestion is hunt out natural solutions and try them while you wait for the surgery. Natural solutions can be great but for whatever reason work on some and not on others.
