World Health Organization Declares Mpox Outbreak in Africa a Global Health Emergency
They’re changing the narrative. Just weeks ago it was BIRD FLU and many people were beginning to stress out. Now it’s Mpox – formerly known as Monkeypox. It is showing up in parts of Africa, mainly in gay communities.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on Aug. 14 declared the outbreak of mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, in Africa a public health emergency of international concern because of the increase in cases and deaths in recent months.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the United Nation’s WHO, announced the declaration in Geneva, accepting a recommendation from WHO’s emergency committee.
Tedros said there have already been more than 14,000 reported cases and 524 reported deaths in Africa this year, a jump from last year. He also pointed to the emergence of a new mpox strain, or clade, which he described as worrying.
“In addition to other outbreaks of other clades of mpox in other parts of Africa, it’s clear that a coordinated international response is essential to stop these outbreaks and save lives,” Tedros said at a briefing.
Mpox is a virus that occurs in animals and humans. Mpox can spread between people and causes an illness that typically manifests with a rash and resolves in a few weeks. But some cases can lead to death.
Mpox has predominately affected men who have sex with other men.
A public health emergency of international concern, or global health emergency, is the highest level of alarm the WHO can convey. It’s declared for extraordinary events deemed to constitute a public health risk to countries through the international spread of disease.
COVID-19 was declared a public health emergency of international concern in 2020. That declaration ended in 2023 after the number of cases dropped considerably.
The WHO declared mpox a public health emergency of international concern in 2022 but ended the declaration on May 11, 2023. Tedros at that time said countries had curbed the mpox outbreak, which was caused by a strain known as clade 2b.
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention earlier this week declared a public emergency over the mpox outbreak.
“Today I commit to you that African citizens will lead this fight with every resource at our disposal,” Jean Kaseya, the head of the agency, said at a briefing.
He said Africa was working on securing more vaccines, as it has only about 200,000 doses at this time but estimates it will need more than 10 million.
The new emergence of the new variant, clade 1b, in the Democratic Republic of Congo has stoked concerns.
Clade 1, also known as the Congo Basin clade, has historically caused more severe disease than clade 2, which has also been described as the West African clade.
Clade 1b cases have been identified in other African countries, including Kenya and Uganda, prompting Tedros to convene the emergency committee to consider advising that a global health emergency be declared. Some of those nations had never before found a case of mpox.
“We believe that it’s already a risk for international spread. And of course, there is also the chance that it could spread beyond Africa to other regions of the world,” Tedros said.
All clade 1 cases have been identified in Africa, meaning the risk in the United States is low, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. European authorities have also assessed the risk as low. But officials have warned doctors to be on the lookout for cases among people who have recently been to Congo or neighboring countries.
The WHO has already been on the ground working with affected countries in Africa, providing machines to analyze blood samples and training health care workers, according to the organization. The WHO says the work will cost $15 million and has asked for donations to cover part of the cost.
“WHO is committed in the days and weeks ahead to coordinate the global response, working closely with each of the affected countries, and leveraging our on-the-ground presence, to prevent transmission, treat those infected, and save lives,” Tedros said. source
Is it just me, or does this remind other readers of a terrible virus – HIV – which would become AIDS in affected humans? This was first found in Africa, mainly in gay communities in the 1980’s.

Imam Asad Zaman has been a mouthpiece for Hamas and supported its October 7 invasion of Israel.

Vice presidential nominee Tim Walz gave an extreme Muslim cleric’s group $100,000 of public funds and has hosted him at official events as governor of Minnesota, The Washington Examiner reported Friday.
Asad Zaman has been a mouthpiece for Hamas for many years, publicizing its propaganda on his social media.
On October 7th, the day the terrorist organization invaded Israel, massacring 1,200 people, including infants, and abducting some 250 to hold as hostages, the imam said that he “stands in solidarity with Palestinians against Israeli attacks.”
When California Congresswoman Katie Porter condemned Hamas the next day, he asked her if she would “reaffirm the right of Palestinians to defend themselves.”
Zaman has also called Israel an “apartheid” state, and in 2015 promoted a film about World War II praising Hitler that is a favorite among neo-Nazis.
“Imam Zaman has a troubling history of playing into classic anti-Jewish themes and justifying violence against Israel,” an Anti-Defamation League spokesperson told the Washington paper.
“Given his hurtful remarks post-Oct. 7, and absent any recognition of the pain he has caused the Jewish community, we urge all public officials and leaders to avoid meeting with him in the future,” the spokesperson added.
“Those who have met with Imam Zaman should clarify that they don’t agree with his toxic views about Jews and the Jewish state.”
The Muslim cleric attended several community events over recent years hosted by Walz, and in 2019 he even delivered an invocation before the governor’s State address, the report said.
Zaman heads the Muslim American Society (MAS) of Minnesota, which on the day of the invasion said in a statement that it “reaffirms its unwavering support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation.”
It also accused Israel of “unprovoked attacks on Palestinian areas,” and maintaining an “inhumane blockade of Gaza,” called on the U.S. to stop supporting Israel, and for Arab countries who have normalized relations with Israel to “reconsider their stance.”
As part of a 2008 court case of a man accused of wanting to join the Taliban, federal prosecutors said that “MAS was founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in America”, which supports terrorists.
As governor, Walz has supported the group, which is set up as a non-profit organization, to the tune of over $100,000 in recent years, the report said, citing State records.
“Asad Zaman is one of America’s most prominent Islamist voices and has a long history of extreme rhetoric and ideas,” Sam Westrop, director of the Middle East Forum’s Islamist Watch project, told The New York Post Friday.
Saying that the Forum had warned about Zaman’s ideology already in 2019, he questioned, “How could Walz and his staff have failed to conduct the most cursory of checks on the company they keep?”
“Which extremists will he end up funding as vice-president?” Westrop added.

Vice President Kamala Harris (D) apparently required rally attendees in Arizona on Friday to present photo IDs even though she and President Joe Biden (D) have opposed voter ID laws.
Fox News reported that Harris and her radical leftist running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), were set to hold the rally at Desert Diamond Arena.
The venue was only revealed on Thursday, the day before the rally, the article said.
Only those who had RSVP’ed an email invitation and provided “a matching government-issued photo ID” were allowed to enter Harris’s Arizona campaign event.
A screenshot with information about the rally said the Arizona Democrat Party sent out the invitation emails, which said those with an RSVP and matching ID were allowed to enter the arena due to security concerns, per RNC Research’s post:
Social media users were quick to respond to the news, one person writing, “Dems want ID to get into a rally but not to vote???”
“ID’s for a rally but not a federal election? I’m calling bullshit on the bullshit! Get it together,” another user commented, while someone else said, “All this security protocol for ticketing. Yet they demand nothing be done for the security of the vote.”
Harris does not support election integrity, as Breitbart News has reported. The outlet quoted Brianna Lyman of the Federalist.

Harris, both as a senator and vice president, has been vocal about her determination to dismantle any semblance of security in elections — a frightening foreshadowing of what could be to come should she win in November.
Leftists put huge pressure on Harris recently to stand her ground regarding her radical positions on major legislative issues, per Breitbart News.
“The radicalized wing of the Democrat party appears to be concerned about Harris’s seeming pivot to the middle,” the article read.
