After days of observing “large sunspot groups” and “several strong flares, NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center issued a G4 Severe Geomagnetic Storm Watch for Friday, May 10, through Sunday, May 12.

A graphic circulating with information about the watch said, in part:

At least five earth-directed coronal mass ejections were observed and expected to arrive as early as midday Friday, May 10, 2024, and persist through Sunday, May 12, 2024. This is an unusual event.

Several strong flares have been observed over the past few days and were associated with a large and magnetically complex sunspot cluster (NOAA region 3664), which is 16 times the diameter of Earth.

In a media advisory, the agency explained what coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are, and how they can disrupt our technology-dependent lives.

CMEs are explosions of plasma and magnetic fields from the sun’s corona. They cause geomagnetic storms when they are directed at Earth.

Geomagnetic storms can impact infrastructure in near-Earth orbit and on Earth’s surface, potentially disrupting communications, the electric power grid, navigation, radio and satellite operations. SWPC has notified the operators of these systems so they can take protective action.

Geomagnetic storms can also trigger spectacular displays of aurora on Earth. A severe geomagnetic storm includes the potential for aurora to be seen as far south as Alabama and Northern California. 

While geomagnetic storms have the potential to severely disrupt life on earth, particularly by damaging or knocking out portions of the electric grid, NOAA says that the vast majority of G5 storms (the highest level) “will not cause catastrophic damage to the electric grid” and noted that “On average, the Earth is impacted by such storms about four times during every 11-year solar cycle, so many large storms have impacted the planet since the Carrington Storm with much less signification impact.”

Still, if one wants to be prepared, the steps are much the same as those families can/should take to prepare for natural disasters. source

Kevin Feigelis spoke with congressional lawmakers in March amid scrutiny of antisemitism at colleges

A Stanford University Ph.D. student who testified before Congress on the rise of antisemitism on college campuses likened anti-Israel protesters who have set up an encampment on campus to children and the school to parents who refuse to dole out proper discipline.

Kevin Feigelis, 30, who is studying artificial intelligence at the northern California campus, said anti-Israel agitators have disrupted classes and some professors and teaching assistants have encouraged students to participate in demonstrations. 

“I’m a bit older than these youngsters that go to college,” Feigelis told Fox News Digital. “These kids are not really my main enemy. I think of them as children because mostly they’re 18 years old. “It’s the job of a parent … is to guide us in a direction,” he added. “Unfortunately, it’s the university and the board of trustees of the university and the leadership that are failing in their obligation as surrogate parents of these kids to discipline them and to hold them accountable and tell them that it’s unacceptable to essentially terrorize Jewish students.”

Stanford, like other universities, has seen anti-Israel protests and encampments spring up in recent weeks in opposition to Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Feigelis, who lives off campus, spoke about antisemitism on college campuses before members of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce in March.

Last month, two Jewish students at Stanford snapped a photo of a protester wearing a notorious Hamas green headband at an encampment in White Plaza, near the center of campus.

“We were just in shock that somebody could be like that in the middle of our campus,” one of the students previously told Fox News Digital.

The school submitted the image to the FBI, which declined to comment on the matter. The climate of antisemitism has taken hold at Stanford since Oct. 7, when Hamas terrorists attacked and killed some 1,200 people in Israel. 

On campus, protesters have spray-painted anti-Israel slogans and shouted down Jewish students going about their day, he said. 

“I’ve got friends that had to move off of campus because their roommates were shouting for intifada,” he said. “These people just defy my expectations every day.”

In a message to students and faculty on Tuesday, school President Richard Saller and Provost Jenny Martinez said the campus has “remained relatively peaceful physically” compared to other schools like Columbia University in New York City. Both officials noted that the encampment violates a school policy that prohibits overnight camping. source

As a Jew, this is terrifying.  I’m talking to God all day long about this. Did you ever think about how many people have used ancestry.com or other similar sites which tells the person their ethnic background from DNA? Do you realize that they keep this information and most likely sell it to the highest bidder? 

My point is this: there are huge databases where the Jew haters can go to find Jews! Do you understand the ramifications??
