The Buffalo Bills revealed Tuesday that safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest Monday night during the team’s nationally broadcast contest against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The “Monday Night Football” game was suspended after the incident, which took place with 5:58 to play in the first quarter, according to CBS.
“Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals,” the Bills announced in a Twitter post.
“His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition,” the statement said, referring to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Video of the incident was posted to Twitter.

Medical personnel then rushed to the field to treat Hamlin, who was taken off the field in an ambulance.
“Hamlin received immediate medical attention on the field by team and independent medical staff and local paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition. Our thoughts are with Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide more information as it becomes available. The NFL has been in constant communication with the NFL Players Association which is in agreement with postponing the game,” the NFL statement said.
Coy Wire, now a CNN sports anchor and a former Buffalo player, said the response to the incident shows the NFL is changing, according to CNN. SOURCE
