I’ve heard this over and over in my family and amongst unbelieving friends.
When I came to faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in 1983, I immediately knew that there was only One True Gospel. I was taught and learned right from God’s Word that the following was the simple Gospel of Christ – SO simple, that a child could understand it. Once again, gotquestions.org explains the Gospel of Jesus Christ so clearly:
What is the gospel of Jesus Christ?
The word gospel means “good news,” so the gospel of Christ is the good news of His coming to provide forgiveness of sins for all who will believe (Colossians 1:14; Romans 10:9). Since the first man’s sin, mankind has been under the condemnation of God (Romans 5:12). Because everyone breaks God’s perfect law by committing sin, everyone is guilty (Romans 3:23). The punishment for the crime of sin is physical death (Romans 6:23) and then an eternity spent in a place of punishment (Revelation 20:15; Matthew 25:46). This eternal separation from God is also called the “second death” (Revelation 20:14–15).
The bad news that all are guilty of sin and condemned by God is countered by the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. God, because of His love for the world, has made a way for man to be forgiven of their sins (John 3:16). He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the sins of mankind on Himself through death on a cross (1 Peter 2:24). In placing our sin on Christ, God ensured that all who will believe in the name of Jesus will be forgiven (Acts 10:43). Jesus’ resurrection guarantees the justification of all who believe (Romans 4:25). (emphasis added)
The Bible specifies the content of the gospel message: “Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time” (1 Corinthians 15:1–6). In this passage, Paul emphasizes the primacy of the gospel—it is of “first importance.” The gospel message contains two historical facts, both supported by Scripture: Christ’s death and His resurrection. Both those facts are bolstered by other proofs: Christ’s death is proved by His burial, and His resurrection is proved by the eyewitnesses.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news that God provided the way for man to be freed from the penalty of sin (John 14:6; Romans 6:23). Everyone dies physically, but those who believe in Jesus Christ are promised a physical resurrection unto eternal life (John 11:23–26). Those who reject Christ will not only die physically but will undergo a “second death,” which the Bible describes as an eternal lake of fire (Revelation 20:13–14). Jesus is the only One in whom salvation can be found (Acts 4:12).
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news anyone will ever hear, and what a person does with this news will determine where he or she spends eternity. God is calling you to choose life. Call on the name of the Lord and be saved (Romans 10:13).
The “Christianity”that the unbelieving world accepts
This world has taught unbelievers that God has only One attribute and that is LOVE. Unbelievers ‘love’ this thought. Why do you think that is? If they believe there is indeed a God, then believing that He is pure LOVE (and that alone) opens wide the door to all manner of misconceptions about Him.
They believe that it does not matter how a person conducts himself/herself- there is no judgment from God – no standards. SIN is taken out of the equation.
But the truth is that God’s other attributes are HOLINESS, RIGHTEOUSNESS AND being JUST.
Many years ago, I was trained in Evangelism Explosion in my church. I became a trainer and would go out with groups to people’s homes who had expressed an interest in a visit from the church.
If we established from the conversation that the person was not saved, we would talk about the attributes of God. When we came to Him being “Just” we asked them if a person broke the law and appeared before a judge; and the judge just let the offender go free without any consequenses – how would they feel about that judge?
Invariably, the person would answer that the judge did not do his job. We would then compare this to God, whose attributes show Him clearly to be the creator of the Universe and the One who wrote the Ten Commandments.
We asked the person if God is truly the Creator of all there is, then doesn’t He have the right to make the laws? The person would usually agree that He had that right.
Then we would explain that we have ALL sinned and fall short of the Glory of God; and that this Sin separates us from God. But then the greatest part of explaining Salvation would come. We would tell the person that because of God’s great love for us, He placed our Sin on His only begotten Son (Jesus) on the Cross; and if we repented of our sin (agreed with God about sin) and believed and trusted what Jesus did for us, we would be reconciled with God and be in heaven with Him for eternity when we leave this earth.
Of course, the Bible says it best:
How Can I Be Saved?
First, my friend, you must realize you are a sinner. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
But God loved you so much He gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to bear your sin and die in your place. “He hath made Him, Jesus, Who knew no sin to be sin for us . . . that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Jesus had to shed His blood and die. “For the life of the flesh is in the blood” (Lev. 17:11). “ . . . without shedding of blood is no remission [pardon]” (Hebrews 9:22).
“ God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
Although we cannot understand how, God said my sins and your sins were laid upon Jesus and He died in our place. He became our substitute. It is true. God cannot lie.
My friend, “God commandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). This repentance is a change of mind that agrees with God that one is a sinner, and also agrees with what Jesus did for us on the Cross.
In Acts 16:30-31, the Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas: “ ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ And they said, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved ’ ”
Simply believe on Him as the one who bore your sin, died in your place, was buried, and whom God resurrected. His resurrection powerfully assures that the believer can claim everlasting life when Jesus is received as Savior.
“But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12).
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13).
Whosoever includes you. Shall be saved means not maybe, nor can, but shall be saved.
Surely, you realize you are a sinner. Right now, wherever you are, repenting, lift your heart to God in prayer.
In Luke 18:13, the sinner prayed:
“God be merciful to me a sinner.” Just pray: “Oh God, I know I am a sinner. I believe Jesus was my substitute when He died on the Cross. I believe His shed blood, death, burial, and resurrection were for me. I now receive Him as my Savior. I thank You for the forgiveness of my sins, the gift of salvation and everlasting life, because of Your merciful grace. Amen.”
Just take God at His word and claim His salvation by faith. Believe, and you will be saved. No church, no lodge, no good works can save you. Remember, God does the saving. All of it!
God’s simple plan of salvation is: You are a sinner. Therefore, unless you believe on Jesus Who died in your place, you will spend eternity in Hell. If you believe on Him as your crucified, buried, and risen Savior, you receive forgiveness for all of your sins and His gift of eternal salvation by faith.
You say, “Surely, it cannot be that simple.” Yes, that simple! It is scriptural. It is God’s plan. My friend, believe on Jesus and receive Him as Savior today.
If His plan is not perfectly clear, read this over and over, without laying it down, until you understand it. Your soul is worth more than all the world.
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36).
Be sure you are saved. If you lose your soul, you miss Heaven and lose all. Please! Let God save you this very moment.
God’s power will save you, keep you saved, and enable you to live a victorious Christian life. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Do not trust your feelings. They change. Stand on God’s promises. They never change. After you are saved, there are four things to practice daily for spiritual growth:
Pray — you talk to God.
Read your Bible — God talks to you.Witness — you talk for God.
Join a Bible Study — You will grow in your faith.
Develop relationships with other believers – Fellowship is so important!!
Brethren, pray to our Father and ask Him if there is someone you might share this piece with!

Geri, so true the Gospel is so simple even a kid can understand it. Why does it need to be so ez to understand? After all we’ve been to the moon & we are pretty clever creatures. We also have the technology to destroy the world in minutes. We’ve had mighty technical advances in the last 70 years that are mind boggling. Wow! That makes us pretty darn smart..right? Why then does God say “ALL mankind is stupid devoid of knowledge” Jer 51:17? Maybe that’s why the Lord made the Gospel simple. My 2 cents worth (5 cents incl recent Biden inflation).
I like your 2 cents worth! 🙂 And I agree with you about the Biden Inflation LOL!
So happy to be your sister in Christ. 🙏🏻
And I am happy to be your sister in Christ! We’ll dance together on streets of gold!
Amen and Amen.
