Well, this is something I did NOT expect to see actually starting in Germany. You would think after all that has come out of that land, they might actually wait until someone else started following Hamas’ vile example in Europe!
But no, I have read Field Marshal Montgomery’s books, and, in one at least of them, he points out how unsafe it is to trust Germany’s intentions by reminding the reader that ever since Otto von Bismarck unified the German states, creating the modern Germany we all know, they kept on plunging Europe into horrendous war. Simply put, on the wings of the Franco-Prussian War, won by Prussia in 1871, Bismarck pulled all the German states into one politically unified country, and promptly began building a German empire and, of course, swelling the size of Germany’s forces and arms production to facilitate this.
Of course, this got very much up the noses of Great Britain, France and Russia, in particular, sowing the seeds for trouble to come. Germany began planning the attack on France, through neutral Belgium, around 1905 — long before the Great War (WWI) began.
And so, Prussia having already attacked France as it did in 1870, and now having plotted to do the same again on a larger scale, bringing about the most horrific war yet known to mankind, lasting from 1914 to 1918, it still wasn’t enough — Germany was still thirsting for power and blood. And this time it was Hitler brought it about — not just the Second World War, but also the Nazi’s years-long murder spree throughout the 1930s in particular.
Field Marshal Montgomery makes the point that Germany, with such a record, spanning only a short period of time in the greater scheme of things, was certainly not to be trusted not to try similar things on again, and that they would need watching for a long time before one could think perhaps they had reformed.
Montgomery is very out of favour with many, especially historians, these days; just like so many other decent people he is now very badly maligned, with blatant and scurrilous lies told about him. But he was generally right, because he took the time to study and think about things, and his writings are a result of that. And now Germany seems to proving him right about themselves, too!!!
