A man armed with a gun and knife was detained inside State Farm Stadium Friday at a memorial for conservative activist Charlie Kirk in Glendale, Arizona.
Secret Service officers approached the man after noting he was “exhibiting suspicious behavior,” The Washington Post reported citing the Secret Service.
The man claimed to be working with law enforcement, and told Secret Service officials he was armed
“The individual is not a member of authorized law enforcement working the event and is currently in custody,” the service said.
“The U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement are investigating the circumstances as to why he was at the location.”
As of late Friday night, the man was detained but not yet arrested.
The Charlie Kirk memorial service is set to take place in State Farm Stadium on Sunday, with many high profile figures like President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and many other top officials and conservative figures in attendance.
Federal officials are tracking multiple threats aimed at the event and have given it a security designation akin to what they would assign to the Super Bowl. A public information officer with the Glendale Police Department believes “more than 100,000 people” may be in attendance.
