“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
What child of God doesn’t want their God-given gift of peace of mind? And yet, knowing that, many still experience anxious minds about most everything. We hear what the word of God says to do here; and so, we pray, petition, and give thanks, seeking a calm heart that comes from the peace of mind that only God can give.
But this evil, chaotic world we live in, is designed to rob you of that peace. Jesus called the devil a thief who, “Comes only to steal and kill and destroy…” John 10:10 If this brings to mind losing your worldly goods and your life, you’re missing the main truth. The devil wants to steal your peace of mind; your joy in the Lord; he wants to kill your love for your brethren; he wants to destroy your faith in God, and your relationship with Him. And it would appear he’s pretty successful at his work.
But we possess the sword of the Lord, and we’re going to wield it right here to help our brethren to, “Be anxious for nothing.” In addition to prayer and thanksgiving, I believe the body of Christ needs to grow in grace and the knowledge of our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. So, let’s take a look at some truths that should remove the anxieties we may have concerning the things going on in the world, or in our personal lives, such as health issues, financial issues and family problems.
– The very first thing is this: The Lord is near, very near—Christ lives in you through His Holy Spirit; He is ever present with you in all of your difficulties, and He loves you!
– The Lord will finish the work He began in you; He will complete it on the day He returns for us because He loves you!
– The Lord is working in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure because He loves you!
– We can do all things through Christ because He strengthens us to do it—He loves us!
– The Lord is supplying and will supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus because He loves us!
– Our citizenship is in heaven. We are eagerly awaiting Jesus’ return from there to transform these lowly bodies. Jesus is coming after us because He loves us!
– “Cast all your care on Him because He loves you and cares for you” 1 Peter 5:8
How can I be anxious about nothing? Ponder on and embrace these truths. Wrap them around your waist and they will bring you a calm heart and peace of mind.
