The Sovereignty of God

Today I had to get blood work done. It was pretty amazing and I’ll tell you why.

Tim and I waited in there for almost 2 hours. An older black couple came in and I knew immediately that the husband was a believer. Jesus was shining from his sweet face. I also thought that his wife was a believer too.

The husband was on his cell phone briefly and told the person that he was turning 75 tomorrow. After he got off his cell, I said to him “Happy Birthday” a day early! He was shocked and asked how I knew. I told him that I overheard him on the phone. We laughed.

Then he began telling me about the person to whom he had been speaking. He told me that the person believed that the Sabbath was on Saturday. I said, “Oh, is he Seventh Day Adventist?” That got us talking about the Bible. The waiting room was pretty packed and some people were listening.

We began to talk about these last days and how scary they can be. We talked about the Gospel. I noticed a mother and her teen-age daughter looking at us. They didn’t look very friendly. As a matter of fact, they seemed a bit hostile. But then I thought that maybe they just were not feeling well.

But then the conversation took an unexpected turn. I told my new friend that I grew up Jewish but had met Jesus in 1983 and He became my Lord and Savior. Just then I glanced at the mother and her daughter. My heart flipped in my chest. They both reminded me of Palestinians. I looked away and prayed in my head for the Lord’s protection. They both had dead-looking eyes, like a shark.

I finally went up to the reception desk and asked if perhaps they had forgotten me. One lady said “Oh my goodness – you are STILL here!? Then she looked in the computer and said to me “Your doctor did not send the order to us for blood work.”

I didn’t get upset. I laughed and told her that I’d call my doctor on Monday and get the request wired to them. She kept apologizing and I told her it was just a mistake, and certainly not her fault.

I believe that God intended for Tim and I to be in that place – at that time. I believe that He wanted us to wait that long. It was not a mistake at all.

It was a Divine Appointment………

  1. I love hearing those kind of stories. I remember many years ago taking a Greyhound bus from Montreal back home to London Ontario. A young boy sat beside me and his mother was behind us for some reason. I started talking to him about the Lord and he was quite interested. I imagine he might have been 10 or 11. He said that when he got home he was going to ask Jesus into his heart. Not sure why he didn’t want to do it right then, but I prayed that he did so when he was in a comfortable place to do it.
