Russian President Vladimir Putin makes another threat to the West about the possibility of nuclear war.
During his annual address to the country’s parliament on Thursday, Putin, accused the West of having their main focus on weakening Russia.
He stated if the West continues to support he has a nuclear arsenal “that can hit targets on their territory.”
“(Western nations) must realize that we also have weapons that can hit targets on their territory,” Putin said. “All this really threatens a conflict with the use of nuclear weapons and the destruction of civilization. Don’t they get that?!”
Additionally, the Russian president is in all likelihood set to be re-elected to another six-year term during the upcoming March 15-17 presidential election.
The grave warning comes after French President Emmanuel Macron proposed the idea to European NATO members of sending ground troops to Ukraine, which was rejected by the United States, Britain and Germany, among other nations.
“Strategic nuclear forces are in a state of full readiness,” Putin said, noting that new-generation hypersonic nuclear weapons he first spoke about in 2018 had either been deployed or were at a stage where development and testing were being completed.
The comments made by Putin come just a day after the president of the European Commission suggested that Russia’s assets should be frozen to help support Ukraine.
The Russian leader also suggested Western politicians should think about the fate of leaders such as Nazi Germany’s Adolf Hitler and France’s Napoleon Bonaparte who invaded Russia during their time as well.
“But now the consequences will be far more tragic,” said Putin. “They think it (war) is a cartoon.”
Furthermore, Putin denied reports from U.S. intelligence that claimed Russia was developing a nuclear space-based weapon designed to target American satellites.
