The woke Church of England’s latest assault on the tenets of the Christian religion is apparently the Lord’s Prayer, which the Archbishop of York has criticised for being “oppressively patriarchal” over its reference to “Our Father”.
During a meeting of the General Synod, Church of England’s governing body, Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell called into question the use of the Lord’s Prayer, branding the prayer offered to Christians by Jesus Christ during the Sermon on the Mount as “problematic”.“I know the word ‘father’ is problematic for those whose experience of earthly fathers has been destructive and abusive, and for all of us who have laboured rather too much from an oppressively patriarchal grip on life,” Archbishop Cottrell said according to GB News.“We remain stubbornly unreconciled, appear complacent about division, and often also appear all too ready to divide again… We have got used to disunity,” he added, continuing: “We think it’s normal when in fact, it is a disgrace, an affront to Christ and all he came to give us.”The comments from Cottrell, the second-highest ranking bishop in the Church, come amid a broader push to adopt progressive beliefs from the CoE leadership, which voted to allow priests to offer “prayers for God’s blessing” for same-sex marriages earlier this year for the first time in the history of the established church of England.
Earlier this year, it was reported that the CoE was planning on establishing a project “on gendered language” in reference to God later, with some suggesting that phrases like “Our Father” could be replaced by supposedly neutral terms or feminine alternatives in order to combat alleged sexism within the faith.
Responding to Archbishop Cottrell’s comments on the Lord’s Prayer, the conservative Anglican Mainstream group chairman, Canon Dr Chris Sugden said: “Is the Archbishop of York saying Jesus was wrong, or that Jesus was not pastorally aware?
“It seems to be emblematic of the approach of some church leaders to take their cues from culture rather than scripture.”
Anglican Deacon and GB News presenter Calvin Robinson added: We call it the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ because it is the prayer the Lord gave us. He taught us to pray it. We call God ‘Our Father’ because that is how he instructed us to address him.
“Is the Archbishop saying Christ was wrong? That God made a mistake?”

What kind of person thinks themselves worthy of correcting both The Father& The Son? I can see the fancy ecclesiastical garments he’s wearing, but it has totally gone to his head.What nerve, and utter stupidity.

If I remember right we will be making account for our words and gee, there are consequences for all of our actions. As a survivor of abuse by my father I don’t have the least bit of a problem in calling our heavenly Father, Father! This man is NUTS! And he will pay the consequences!
I will continue to worship Abba, Father God the Creator. Those children of perdition who worship mother earth and serve Satan worship the creation with eternal consequences.

BTW the Bible (remember what that is?) says the coming anti-christ will be a MAN & you WILL worship him or else. You gonna go against the word of Almighty God & dare to call the antichrist gender neutral (whatever that really means)? Here are just a few Scriptures supporting the idea of the a/c being a man & not a genderless weirdo. Note; I have inserted CAPS for emphasis on gender only in the following verses.

Did your vast education ever cover John 8:44? JESUS (remember Him?) said “You are of YOUR FATHER the devil and you want to do the desires of YOUR FATHER.”
Doesn’t sound “gender neutral” to me. No mystery here to anyone who can read.
The Bible says this about a gender neutral coming antichrist. There ain’t none. He will be the FALSE Christ because the REAL Christ is a human divine MALE. Our Christ will come back in power & glory to destroy His enemies (maybe you) & establish HIS kingdom on earth. Therefore the anti christ must be a man or he wouldn’t even begin to deceive anyone. Our Jesus is not “gender neutral” & Jesus prayed & served flawlessly & instructed us to pray “our Father in heaven. Hallowed be thy Name….”. Also Mr. Cottrell I might add that if you are not “born again” then you should NOT pray that prayer & also indicates the wrath of God abides on you because you are not an official born again Christian. Your church cannot replace a heart of stone with a new heart of flesh that yearns to serve & obey Jesus with their laying on of hands & a fancy prayer. YOU have to want to be saved more than life itself & lay everything you have at HIS feet. All you own & your future as well.
Also we are told to refer to God the Father as “Abba Father!”.
Rom 8:15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as SONS by which we cry out, “Abba Father!”
Galatians 4:6-7 And because you are SONS, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, Abba! Father!
7: Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a SON, and if a SON, then an heir through God.
I don’t see anything in the foregoing Scriptures indicating any so called “gender neutral” morass let alone “be problematic” to the reader. I am certain if anything is “problematic” it is with you. My Father in heaven is not an abusive God but a loving God beyond limits of our imagination. He can & does heal hurts caused by living in a cursed world. Nothing is impossible with God.
Allow me to break a couple of basics down for you Mr. Cottrell. In the beginning God created man Gen1:27 “And God created MAN in HIS own image, in the image of God HE created him, MALE and FEMALE HE created THEM. So, Mr. “Man of the Cloth” what’s not to understand here? Ur an educated man do you see anything gender neutral in that Scripture? This is from a God who is unchanging, impeccably perfect, cannot lie & therefore His word is always true, unassailable & forever.
Didn’t Oxford or the many papers & books you have supposedly researched & written ever point that out to you? How about your wife & kids, are they now suddenly gender neutral as well? Are u going to rename everyone in ur family? U gonna rename them after mountains, planets, stars, elements in the periodic table? What will you re/name your wife? She can’t now remain a FEMALE cuz now we all must be sexless according to ur latest crazy cultural embrace.
The true meaning of “gender neutral” has to be sexless. The only thing I can think of that embodies some kind of humanity but is truly gender neutral is AI. Do ur lying words from the pulpit have the power to change the X or Y chromosomes Almighty God put in place forever? So what about that enigma? C’mon now u must lead by example. How about your pets? If I read your bio correctly, I think you have a brother who is, what we call, a shrink…If so I suggest u get immediate help from him in the proper identification of the human genome. A much simpler way & anyone can do it, would be as we say, “just check ur pants”.
Do me and other REAL Christians a favor & delete yourselves & your org from Christianity. The real Christians there need to come out & divorce themselves from your Church of Satan & start a real Bible believing, God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Spirit, Bible believing church. Your Satanic cultic franchise of religion is a parasite of Christianity by using the same terms but drastically changing the meanings & leading ur “flock” straight to hell. If you purport to be a real man of the Biblical God Almighty then you must repent & confess your errors publicly to the church at large immediately or else suffer your eternal fate at the White Throne on your judgement day or serious lack of reward at the BEMA seat of Judgement.
Either that or do the Almighty & real Christianity a big favor & get out of the ministry entirely before your “teachings” send anymore of your deceived flock to hell.
What a shame that the focus of this man is sexism and pronouns. The focus should be eternity. And the eternity he gets may not be exactly what Stephen Cottrell is expecting. I praise God that I HAVE Him as my father. My earthly father abandoned me when I was 2 years old. But Praise God I will spend all eternity with my True Father and my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
