A ‘WOKE’ JOKE

If I were an openly practicing homosexual, I probably wouldn’t want to put my hands on a Bible, either.

According to Rep.-elect Robert Garcia’s office, he was the “first immigrant and LGBTQ mayor” in the history of Long Beach and will be the first member of Congress to identify that way.

In fairness to former mayors of Long Beach, Garcia should probably say that he was the first immigrant and openly LGBTQ mayor of the city, unless he know a lot more about the personal lives of former mayor than seems reasonable.

Regardless, that seems likely to be one of the reasons Garcia will be sworn in with his hands on a number of items, none of which are Holy Scripture.

Kudos on the Constitution — it’s nice to see that there are still a few Democrats out there who know it exists — and for the citizenship certificate as well. And the picture of his parents is fully understandable.

But Superman? Come on, dude. At least pick a hero who actually existed.

But maybe Garcia has trouble distinguishing reality from fiction. Garcia’s House website claims that he “was sworn in as a Member of the United States House of Representatives by the Speaker of the House on January 3rd, 2023,” which is clearly contra-factual. No new members of Congress can be sworn in until the House elects a speaker, which obviously didn’t happen yesterday.

Los Angeles’ KTLA reported the same thing, actually — but we already know about the establishment media’s tenuous grasp on reality.

(Yes, I know — in both cases, the statements were written in advance and scheduled for publication after the swearing-in ceremony. But the fact that both Garcia’s staff and KTLA’s newsroom apparently expected the speakership election to go off without a hitch is almost as damning as if they were just lying about it.)

So I guess there’s still time for Garcia to have a change of heart and include a Bible in that list, but that wouldn’t be the way to bet. People who have committed themselves to a sinful lifestyle generally don’t like to be reminded that there are eternal consequences to those choices.

It’s not politically correct to say anymore — I’m sure I’ll get hate emails and tweets about this commentary, in fact — but homosexuality is sin. Even prominent members of the Republican Party and the Christian church often hesitate to say it, for fear of being labeled haters, but it’s just fact.

The Bible is clear. God laid down the law in the Old Testament and then confirmed it in the New.

“If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them,” reads Leviticus 20:13.

“[A]nd the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error,” Paul writes in Romans 1:27.

But then Paul also tells of the hope for such people — for all of us — in Christ:

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

Let me be clear: I don’t believe that Garcia is any more sinful or in need of God’s grace than I am. My sins are different than his (some of them are included in that list from what a certain former president would probably refer to as “One Corinthians”), but there’s no reason to think that God considers them any less heinous than Garcia’s.

Pretending that sin is something other than sin — “tolerating” the fact that Garcia’s behavior is dangerous and harmful to himself — is hardly loving, any more than it would be to pretend a serious alcoholic isn’t slowly killing himself with his drinking or that a woman who remains with a physically abusive spouse after receiving life-threatening beatings is somehow being wise or caring.

Those who refrain from “judging” the behavior of those who are clearly harming themselves through their repeated bad choices are not loving. They’re the actual haters: They care for themselves so much more than for others that they’re unwilling to make their lives even a little bit uncomfortable for the sake of their brothers and sisters.

For fear of being called a bad name, they’ll let their fellow man perish. That’s not only hate; it’s cowardice to boot.

The difference in my own sinful life — which, yes, has included and will undoubtedly again include instances of hate and cowardice —  is that God has chosen for no reason other than His great love to save me. His son, Jesus, died for my sins and those of anyone who would believe in Him, taking the punishment I deserve and giving me a gift of eternal life with Him that I could never have earned or deserved.

He offers the same thing to Garcia. And, if you haven’t already taken Him up on it, to you. Anyone who will turn away from their sin and ask Jesus to save them can be saved. Anyone, no matter what sins are on their permanent records. That’s why it’s called “The Good News.”

I encourage Garcia to accept that offer, just as I would encourage anyone reading these words to do so. (Anyone interested in more information about that can get some here, or reach out to me on Twitter.)

Trust me: There’s a lot more hope for all of us in the Bible than in every Superman comic ever published.

Border Wall Dismantled in Arizona as Katie Hobbs Becomes Governor

Arizona has started to dismantle its makeshift border wall made of shipping containers that was championed by former Gov. Doug Ducey but faced opposition from newly minted Gov. Katie Hobbs and was the target of a Biden administration lawsuit.

Footage taken on Jan. 3 showed construction machinery removing a line of shipping containers placed along the U.S.–Mexico border in Yuma, Arizona, which coincided with the day Hobbs was sworn in as governor.

Ducey, who in mid-December agreed to dismantle the wall for which he had once been an ardent advocate, ordered disassembly of the makeshift barrier as one of his final acts in office.

He said earlier that the container wall was always meant to be a temporary construction intended to help stem the tide of illegal border crossings until a permanent solution could be found.

Illegal immigration has soared under President Joe Biden’s watch, with unauthorized crossings topping 2.76 million in fiscal year 2022, according to Customs and Border Protection data.

That figure broke the previous record by over 1 million and was more than twice the highest level notched during the tenure of former President Donald Trump, who made stemming illegal immigration a key part of his platform with his signature slogan “Build the Wall.”

Hobbs, who on Tuesday became the first Democrat governor in Arizona in 16 years, had been critical of Republican Ducey’s border wall, labeling it as ineffective political grandstanding.

“It’s a political stunt. It’s a visual barrier that is not actually providing an effective barrier to entry, and I think a waste of taxpayer dollars,” she told Arizona radio station KJZZ in a recent interview.

“The containers aren’t working. There’s many pictures of people climbing over them,” Hobbs added.

While Arizona has begun dismantling its makeshift border barrier, a similar one is going up in nearby Texas, whose Republican governor has, like Ducey, been frustrated by the surge in illegal crossings.

In a bid to bolster border security, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has called in the National Guard to run razor wire barriers in high-traffic areas and recently saidshipping containers were being used to plug more holes.

‘Arizona Has Had Enough’

Ducey, an outspoken critic of Biden’s border policies that he has blamed for the surge in illegal immigration, in August issued an order to plug gaps in the U.S.–Mexico border wall near Yuma, which has become one of the busiest corridors for unauthorized crossings in the country.

“Arizona has had enough,” Ducey said in a press release at the time.

“We can’t wait any longer. The Biden administration’s lack of urgency on border security is a dereliction of duty. For the last two years, Arizona has made every attempt to work with Washington to address the crisis on our border,” Ducey added.

Work crews subsequently erected hundreds of double-stacked shipping containers, in some cases topped by razor wire.

Yuma County Sheriff’s Office deputies have said that the containers have helped prevent illegal immigrants from crossing into the United States.

“Our deputies have noticed traffic is slowing down,” one of them told KYMA-TV.

But the makeshift border wall prompted first a warning from the Biden administration and then a lawsuit.

Lawsuit

The Biden administration warned Arizona officials in October that Ducey’s actions broke the law.

Later, Arizona was hit with a lawsuit for allegedly placing the containers on federal lands without permission, with the U.S. Department of Justice filing a complaint (pdf) on Dec. 14.

The lawsuit alleged that Ducey’s border wall shipping containers “damage federal lands, threaten public safety, and impede the ability of federal agencies and officials, including law enforcement personnel, to perform their official duties.”

Ducey’s office has repeatedly said the barrier was supposed to be temporary and would be taken down once the federal government acted to bolster border security in the area.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced in July that it had authorized the filling of gaps in the border wall near Yuma, prompting Ducey spokesman C.J. Karamargin to say that “from our perspective, the shipping container mission is a success.”

“Not only have we plugged gaps in the border barrier, but we got the federal government to do their job,” he said, referring to the DHS decision to fill gaps in the border wall.

Agreement to Dismantle

On Dec. 21, 2022, Arizona state and federal authorities reached an agreement to remove the makeshift barrier.

Court documents filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona (pdf) show Ducey’s administration agreed to dismantle the containers and remove the equipment, materials, and vehicles used to install them by Jan. 4.

Ducey previously insisted he had the right to defend the state of Arizona and protect its citizens, with his office describing the number of illegal crossings as “ominous” and threatening to overwhelm border communities.

Environmentalists denounced the makeshift wall as harmful to local wildlife.

The work of placing up to 3,000 containers at a cost of about $95 million was about a third complete.

Republicans have long accused the Democrats of advocating for an open-borders policy, though the Biden administration has repeatedly denied this claim.

Fiscal year 2023 is on track to break last year’s record of illegal crossings, with both October and November setting records in their respective months for the number of illegal alien encounters. Source

ABSOLUTE MIRACLE: Pasadena father intentionally drove Tesla off NorCal cliff with his 2 kids, wife in car, CHP says

MONTARA, Calif. (KABC) — A Pasadena father has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and child abuse after authorities say he intentionally drove a Tesla off a cliff as his two children and wife were still in the vehicle.

The Tesla plunged more than 250 feet off a Northern California cliff along the Pacific Coast Highway near an area known as Devil’s Slide that’s known for fatal wrecks.

Dharmesh A. Patel of Pasadena will be booked into San Mateo County Jail after he’s released from a hospital, the highway patrol said in a statement. It wasn’t immediately known if Patel has an attorney.

“CHP investigators worked throughout the night interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene,” the highway patrol statement said. “Based on the evidence collected, investigators developed probable cause to believe this incident was an intentional act.”

Authorities say they weren’t able to determine the Tesla’s driving mode the during the crash, however, they say it does not appear to be a contributing factor in this incident.

Patel, his wife Neha, their 7-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son survived after their car tumbled down the cliffside Monday.

Patel is listed as a doctor at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
On Tuesday, the medical center released the following statement:

“Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is deeply saddened to learn of a traffic incident involving one of our physicians and his family. We are extremely grateful there were no serious injuries. We will not respond further, as this incident is under investigation.”
The car flipped a couple of times before landing on its wheels, wedged against the cliff just steps away from the ocean.

There was no guardrail at the spot where the sedan went off the cliff, officials said.
Crews pulled the kids out of the back window and brought them up the cliff by hand in a rescue basket using the rope system. They were rushed to the hospital by ambulance with musculoskeletal injuries.

The adults had traumatic injuries, however, and had to be hoisted up the cliff by a helicopter. They were then both flown to the hospital, the battalion chief said.
Eyewitness News spoke to several neighbors of the Patels who were stunned.
“They’re like ideal neighbors. It seemed like they had a great holiday, they went to go see both parents. It just seemed very happy and great,” neighbor Sarah Walker said.

The Patel’s next door neighbor, Heather H., said she did notice something seemed off Tuesday and wondered why they hadn’t come home yet.

“They’re lovely people,” she said. “This is really heartbreaking.”

Brethren, this was indeed a Miracle from the hand of God. We don’t know what prompted this father of two and doctor to intentional attempt to kill himself and his family. I have no proof of what could have been the trigger, but I can’t help but wonder if it is related to the Jab.
