Is Neil Gorsuch A Secret Liberal? I Report – You Decide

Ever since I read about Donald Trump’s pick for the SCOTUS appointment, I have had a sense of foreboding about the man – Neil Gorsuch.  Gorsuch is being presented to us as another Antonin Scalia; a solid Constitutionalist Conservative.

I doubt that.

I am a solid Conservative woman.   I would not attend a church which accepted same sex marriage as “normal” and has performed same sex unions since the 1980’s and same sex marriages since the SCOTUS decision. I would also never attend a church which hates Israel (All Episcopal churches are united on this).  It would just not even cross my mind to enter such a place.

But Neil Gorsuch attends an ultra liberal church in Colorado, and his pastor is a woman.

Is Gorsuch a secret liberal? Trump, GOP have reason to wonder.

Justice Harold Burton recalled from a 1957 meeting with President Eisenhower that the president said his two biggest mistakes were sitting on the Supreme Court: Justices Earl Warren and William Brennan. Both were Republicans.

Warren was the governor of California who participated in the detention of Japanese Americans during World War II. Brennan was appointed to New Jersey Supreme Court by Republican Governor Alfred Driscoll. Brennan was not a liberal on New Jersey’s highest court.

Justice David Souter, appointed by George H.W. Bush and Harry Blackmun appointed by President Nixon, turned out to be liberals. Byron White, appointed by John F. Kennedy, turned out to be much more conservative than expected.

The first point is that once on the Supreme Court, justices can go on their own path. The second point is that judges with slim records, like Judge Gorsuch, are not easy to predict.

Liberal Signs

Gorsuch lives in the ultra-liberal college town of Boulder, Colorado. He also teaches at the University of Colorado’s law school, also a progressive bastion, and is supported in his quest for the Supreme Court by most of the faculty and students there.

Gorsuch is also a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Boulder. The Episcopal Church has embraced very liberal positions on a variety of issues, including performing same-sex commitment ceremonies since the 1980s and eventually same-sex marriages. At church, he often hears a very liberal point of view.

Mike Orr, a spokesman for the Episcopal Church in Colorado, described Gorsuch’s church, as a congregation that “does a lot of social justice and advocacy.” He said, “It’s a healthy and vibrant congregation. It’s very diverse in its congregants as well as its ministry.”

The first word that St. John’s uses to describe itself on its website and Facebook page is “inclusive,” and the church is led by a female rector. On its website, the church encourages members to write letters to Congress asking that they combat climate change.

Cases and Decisions

Judge Gorsuch sided with an Albuquerque middle schooler who was strip-searched by his school, dissenting while his colleagues ruled that the school, police officer and other employees were immune from lawsuits. Judge Gorsuch cited in a brief, colorful dissent, “Oliver Twist,” in which a judge admonishes Mr. Micawber that the law thinks a man should control his wife. In the novel, Micawber responds: “If the law thinks that, then the law is a ass, a idiot.”

Gorsuch concluded:

“Often enough the law can be ‘a ass — a idiot,’ Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist 520 (Dodd, Mead & Co. 1941) (1838) — and there is little we judges can do about it, for it is (or should be) emphatically our job to apply, not rewrite, the law enacted by the people’s representatives. Indeed, a judge who likes every result he reaches is very likely a bad judge, reaching for results he prefers rather than those the law compels.

“So it is I admire my colleagues today, for no doubt they reach a result they dislike but believe the law demands — and in that I see the best of our profession and much to admire. It’s only that, in this particular case, I don’t believe the law happens to be quite as much of a ass as they do. I respectfully dissent.”

Judge Gorsuch’s opinion in this case was published six months ago. He does not sound very conservative in this dissent.

Judge Gorsuch wrote an opinion upholding a Colorado clean energy program against a challenge alleging it would hurt coal producers from out of state. Colorado law requires electricity generators to ensure that 20 percent of the electricity they sell to Colorado consumers comes from renewable sources. Gorsuch upheld the liberal legislation of the Colorado legislature that was challenged by the Energy and Environment Legal Institute, a conservative, anti-environment organization.

Liberal or Libertarian?

Judge Gorsuch does not fit the mold of a rock-ribbed conservative. He is a smart, free-thinking, literary, independent who will be a good, and unpredictable justice. In some cases he will be liberal, some libertarian and in others conservative. But he is a fair man with a good sense of justice, just what we need on the Supreme Court.

Let’s look a little closer at Neil Gorsuch’s church:

Here is the website in case you would like to look around yourself:

St. John’s Episcopal Church of Boulder, CO

I’m posting some things straight from the website for you to see:

“St. John’s is the downtown Episcopal Church in Boulder, Colorado. We are an inclusive, Christ-centered community reaching out to all who are seeking a deeper spirituality and relationship with God and one another.” (emphasis added)

In case you didn’t know, “inclusive” churches are gay affirming churches. That means that same sex couples and all gays or transgenders are welcomed into membership and considered completely normal. These churches teach that God does not despise homosexuality. Unfortunately, they are dead wrong.  The Word clearly articulates homosexuality as an abomination to God.

“Help Colorado Stay Gun Safe: Join our Rapid Response Network Gun violence

With a new State House of Representatives and a new State Senate preparing to convene for the 2017 session in early January, we are developing a list of parishioners who are interested in being part of our Congregation’s Rapid Response Network. This network would be activated as significant bills are introduced that relate to guns. Talking points will be provided and you will be asked to contact either your legislator or members of the committee hearing the bill by letter, phone, e-mail or in person. We will also use this mailing list to keep you informed of events and activities dealing with this issue that we think you will find of interest.”

Oh……so this church has special services about ridding our Constitution of the Second Amendment.   I’ve never been to a church which is involved in changing our Constitution.

“Solar Power for St. John’s

The solar project for St. John’s will now have its own section on the St. John’s web site at http://www.stjohnsboulder.org/solar . This page has been updated with extensive information on the solar project, including a very interesting time-lapsed video showing the construction project, as well as a link to a set of static images. Watch this space and visit the page often for project updates.”

I suppose they are just trying to do their part in the fight against Climate Change.  Another subject I have not seen covered in any churches.

“Contemplative Opportunities

Choral Compline: 2nd Sundays of the month, 9-9:35 pm, sanctuary.
Contemplative Evensong: Wed., 6-6:35 pm, chapel.
Centering prayer: Tues. 9-10:30 am, Wed. 6:45-8 pm, Thurs. 7-7:30 am”

So it seems that St. John’s Episcopal is also deeply into New Age practices. I think that if I would visit Boulder, I would definitely skip visiting this church on a Sunday.

Brethren, what do you think?  Would you ever attend a church such as this one? I doubt that any true Christian would ever want to have anything to do with such a church.

Also, do you believe that Neil Gorsuch is truly a Conservative?  I’ll leave that to your discernment, but as for me, I believe that we are being deceived in a big way by this man.  It won’t be the first time this has happened.

The devil is extremely busy these days.

  1. This information does present Gorsuch as highly suspect, but that would not surprise me in the least since I believe there are more chameleons in government than we realize.

We keep fighting the establishment of a New World Order but the scriptural evidence is quit abundant that it will happen at some point even though it will be short lived.

Even though it appears that President Donald Trump stands against a NWO it is abundantly clear that the Liberals on both sides of the isle, Republicans and Democrats, are fighting to the end that is to establish a NWO.
It one thing to fight against a New World Order but quite another to expect biblical prophesy not to be fulfilled.

I for one trust what the scripture says will happen but we who are believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are called to fight evil where ever we find it exerting it’s ugly head and that includes within our own being.
I am sympathetic with your questioning of Gorsuch, I do not trust Paul Ryan and others in the governmental justice system as well.
Our only hope, as you well know, is to trust God and him only, not in our opinions, not in our speculation, because things are just to complicated for us.

If America has gone so far that God will not save her, I pray that God will save His people, the true and living church. If the NWO is emanate then the rapture of His people may be sooner than we think.

Geri, this article you documented very well and it is worthy of attention.

  2. Great article, Geri. I, too, have had conflicting thoughts about this Judge. I think her really wants this position, and will do everything he can, to get it. And, yes, this means lying, hiding what and who, he really is. He may have been conservative at an earlier time of his life…but, now…how can he be conservative (??), with the place he not only attends for “church services,” but is also actively involved in. We must also realize that our President is not truly conservative. He falls more on the Libertarian side. Pres. Trump’s actions, and lack thereof, also concern me.
Thanks be to our Great God…HE Knows what is going on, and the end result!!

  3. I believe that God’s judgment burns against America. Many think that because Trump was elected, that somehow we are not under judgment any longer. I tell them to look at the SCOTUS decision on marriage; and also to look at the babies being slaughtered daily in the killing mills. America does not appear in End Times prophecy and I believe that we can clearly see why.

  4. I am Watching As Bible Believers Begin To Connect the Dots….I am Grateful To God For The Holy Spirit and The Word Of God….Very Insightful Article Geri…I Commend Your Courage in Publishing It….

  6. Great article, Geri…. Looking through the third lense of scripture we still see events continuing to rapidly push forward to the end of the age. Now it’s all a matter of how God’s plan plays out–only He knows how Gorsuch will be on the court if confirmed. Everything I’m seeing helps push me closer to Jesus as he is really our only protection from evil–especially in these times.
