Some will no doubt be angry at this article. That has never stopped me from telling the truth. If you are a Joyce Meyer fan, I would suggest that you take a step back, and look at all of the evidence against this woman. Then ask the Lord if this is a person He would want you to follow.
First of all, I want to say that I do not believe that the Bible supports women being pastors. When the attributes of church leaders are described in the Word, it is always referring to men. So, with that out of the way, I will continue about Ms. Meyer.
I was in Family Christian Bookstore today, waiting in line. The lady in front of me asked the cashier (manager) where the Joyce Meyer materials were. They struck up a conversation about their adoration of Meyer. Then I noticed that the manager lowered her voice while telling this customer a story about Meyer. I was still able to hear her as she spoke in a way that showed she was trying to keep the information somewhat private.
The manager said to the customer, “I know Joyce Meyer personally.” Then she put her hand beside her mouth, as one does when telling a secret, and said “Joyce Meyer took us all on vacation.” The customer was so impressed. I was so disgusted, and it was only God who held me back from saying what I thought of this whole discussion about Ms. Meyer.
I can only think that when she said “Took us all on vacation” it meant the managers of all of the Family Christian Bookstores – nationwide. This only served to confirm to me that Joyce Meyer is a business woman, with an empire worth many millions of dollars.
If you take the time to research Joyce Meyer, you will see that she is worth over $25 million. She lives in a house worth $2 million, and bought homes worth $2 million for each of her children. She owns a corporate jet worth $10 million. She recently purchased a $500,000 vacation home. She says that God made her rich. I say hogwash. She got rich off of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is wrong on so many levels.
On top of that, she teaches heresy. And THAT is what the rest of this article will be focused upon.
FROM CARM.ORG
“Following is a list of quotes from Joyce Meyer, along with responses.
- Jesus stopped being the Son of God: “He could have helped himself up until the point where he said I commend my spirit into your hands, at that point he couldn’t do nothing for himself anymore. He had become sin, he was no longer the Son of God. He was sin.”(http://storage.carm.org/joycemeyer/joyce-meyer-Jesus-became-sin-stopped-being-son-of-God.mp3)
- Response: This is heresy. Jesus did not ever stop becoming the son of God. Essentially what she is saying is that Jesus stopped being divine, the eternal son, second person of the Trinity. This is an attack on the very nature of Christ and it is a dangerous false teaching. Joyce Meyer needs to repent and retract this statement. There is no place in Scripture that says Jesus stopped being the son of God. She’s adding to the word of God and placing in the hearts and minds of listeners false doctrine.
- Jesus was born again: “The minute that blood sacrifice was accepted Jesus was the first human being that was ever born again,” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neKsa_74w7k&feature=related)
- Response: This is just plain wrong. Being born again means to be saved from the wrath of God for a person’s sins (Eph. 2:1-3), to have a new birth (John 3:3), and to be regenerated (2 Cor. 5:17). Mrs. Meyer is simply wrong biblically. Why does she teach this? It can only be because she has bought into many of the errors of the Positive Confession movement where it is sometimes said that Jesus lost his divine nature, went to hell, finished the atonement in hell, and was born again! This is a serious error since it implies that Jesus needed to be changed…
- Jesus paid for our sins in hell: “He became our sacrifice and died on the cross. He did not stay dead. He was in the grave three days. During that time he entered hell, where you and I deserve to go (legally) because of our sin. He paid the price there.” (The most important decision you’ll ever make, by Joyce Meyer, second printing, may 1993, page 35)
- Response: This is blatantly wrong. Jesus did not pay the price of our redemption in hell. He paid the price on the cross. It was finished on the cross when he said, “It is finished” (John 19:30). Also, consider the following verses:
- Col. 1:20, “and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.”
- Col. 2:14, “having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.”
- 1 Pet. 2:24, “and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.”
- Jesus went to hell in our place and was tormented: “Jesus paid on the cross and went to hell in my place. Then as God had promised, on the third day Jesus rose from the dead. The scene in the spirit realm went something like this: God rose up from his throne and said to demon powers tormenting the sinless son of God, ‘let him go.’ Then the resurrection power of Almighty God went through hell and filled Jesus. On earth his grave where they had buried him was filled with light as the power of God filled his body. He was resurrected from the dead — the first born again man.” (The most important decision you’ll ever make, by Joyce Meyer, second printing, may 1993, page 36)
- Response: Where does she get this completely fictitious dialogue between God and the demon powers? It is made up, not founded in scripture, and mistakenly assumes that Jesus went to hell, the place of torment and suffering after he died on the cross. The Bible does not teach any such thing. However, it does say that Jesus descended into the lower parts of the earth (Eph. 4:9). This can mean that Jesus was physically buried, or that Jesus went to Hades to inform those who had already died about who he was and what he did on the cross, or it can be referring to his incarnation as is contrasted with his ascending into heaven (Eph. 4:10). But there is simply no reason to believe that Jesus suffered in hell and finished the atonement there. See response to Quote 1.
- If you don’t believe Jesus went to hell, you cannot be saved: “His spirit went to hell because that is where we deserve to go… There is no hope of anyone going to heaven unless they believe this truth.” (The most important decision you’ll ever make, by Joyce Meyer, second printing, may 1993, page 37)
- Response: This is an amazingly bad statement on her part. She is saying that you cannot be saved from your sins unless you believe that Jesus went to the hell where we deserve to go. This is a modification of the gospel message that saves, as is found in 1 Cor. 15:1-4 that states it is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Nowhere in scripture are we told to believe that Jesus suffered for us in hell or that he went there, where we deserve to go. This is very wrong and is heretical.
- We are called little gods: “I was listening to a set of tapes by one man and he explained it like this..this kind of gets the point across…he said why do people have such a fit about God calling his creation, his creation, his man not his whole creation, but his man, little gods? If he’s God what’s he going to call them but the God kind? I mean if you as a human being have a baby you call it a human kind. If if [sic] cattle has another cattle they call it cattle kind. I mean what is God supposed to call ’em?Doesn’t the Bible say we are created in his image? Now you understand I am not saying you are god with a capital G. That is not the issue here so don’t go trying to stone me or yell blasphemy at me.” “The Bible says right here John 10:34…’and Jesus answered is it not written in your law I say we are gods.’ So men are called god’s by the law…”(Joyce Meyer). (www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrP3OLCH9GI&feature=related)
- Response: In this clip she goes on to quote John 10:34 where Jesus says to the Pharisees “you are gods,” which is a quote from Psalm 82:6, which is an imprecatory Psalm of condemnation for the unrighteous judges. Psalm 82:7says, nevertheless you will die like men. She then turned to Psalm 82 and went through it. The video stopped so I do not know what she would have said about the next, all important verse.
- Joyce Meyer said she is not a sinner: “I am not poor. I am not miserable and I am not a sinner. That is a lie from the pit of hell. That is what I were and if I still was then Jesus died in vain. I’m going to tell you something folks. I didn’t stop sinning until I finally got it through my thick head I wasn’t a sinner anymore. And the religious world thinks that’s heresy and they want to hang you for it. But the Bible says that I am righteous and I can’t be righteous and be a sinner at the same time.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dmHJdM63hk)
- Response: Mrs. Meyer needs a lesson in basic Bible. 1 John 1:8 says, “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” Notice that John the apostle says “we.” He is including himself with sinners. Also, Paul said in Rom. 7:19-20,24, “For the good that I wish, I do not do; but I practice the very evil that I do not wish. 20 But if I am doing the very thing I do not wish, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me…24 Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?” Is Joyce Meyer better in Christian character than John and Paul? I think not. Mrs. Meyer fails to recognize her own sinfulness, and so mistakenly denies her own sinfulness. I can only conclude that this false teaching comes from pride because it certainly isn’t biblical.
- The host of hell were literally on Jesus and were laughing: “They were having the biggest party that had ever been had. They had my Jesus in the floor and they were standing on his back jumping up and down laughing. And he had become sin. Don’t you think that God was pacing, wanting to put a stop to what was going on? All the host of hell were upon him. Upon him. Up on him. The angels were in agony. All the creation is groaning. All the host of hell was upon him. Up on him. They got on him. They got him down in the floor and got on him and they were laughing and mocking. Ha ha ha ha. You trusted God and look where you ended up. You thought he’d save you and get you off that cross. He didn’t, ha ha ha.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwNfOaxIcOMhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwNfOaxIcOM)
- Response: Where did she get this – in the sacred Book of Joycemeyeronomy? It is certainly not in the Bible, and yet she has no problem teaching it as an authoritative truth. Does she not know that the Bible says not to exceed what is written (1 Cor. 4:6)? Yet, she has done exactly this. She is in grave error and has violated God’s word that says that Jesus bore our sins in his body on the cross (1 Pet. 2:24) and finished the atonement on the cross (John 19:30) – not in hell at the hands of demons! There is no way demons were literally standing ‘on’ Jesus. Meyer is in gross error!
- Joyce Meyer gets revelation knowledge: “The Bible can’t even find any way to explain this. Not really that is why you have got to get it by revelation. There are no words to explain what I am telling you. I have got to just trust God that he is putting it into your spirit like he put it into mine.” (http://storage.carm.org/audio/joycemeyer/joyce-meyer-revelation-knowledge.mp3)
- Response: Revelation knowledge? Is she on par with the apostles who received revelation knowledge from God himself? Or how about the Old Testament prophets? Does she, like them, also receive revelation knowledge from God? If so, how would we know if it were true or not? The answer is simple: we test what she says against Scripture, and it is obvious that she is getting a lot of things from somewhere else that contradict the word of God.” [1]
Well, there you have it. If you are truly born again, then after reading the beliefs and teachings of Joyce Meyer, there is really only one thing for you to do. Repent of following this woman, and read the Bible!! In God’s Word is everything we need to know about Him and ourselves. Be like the people of the church in Berea:
“These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” (Acts 17:11)
MARANATHA!!
I quit following her on Facebook and Twitter!! Thank You Geri for this post!!
So sorry I am typing with my left hand, because me Kitty Cat Patches is laying on my right hand sleeping!! Happy Shavua Tov!!
Love Always,
Kristi
thank God!!
I stopped reading her books 20 years ago. I wrote a post on Reader about it.
If we all…. just check out what we are told by these “preachers” ….in the only authoritative source available…the Holy Bible…deception is averted!
We are commanded….it is not a “suggestion” ….to study the scriptures to confirm what we are hearing. The Holy Spirit provides for us in all knowledge and revelation.
Maranatha…

Thanks for the post. Apart from disagreeing about women pastors(I believe it is about gifted ness not gender) I agree with the rest. The bigger issue (speaking as a non American) is the obsession with celebrity pastors- a reflection of a culture at large hooked on celebrity. If Joel Osteen was ugly and spoke the truth how many people would follow him? Just a thought. 🙂
You don’t need to disagree with the word of God. You need to let us know where God made a woman a leader over men in the Bible. This is what muslim and orthodox copied from the Bible and they are adhering to it. But, not us, penti-evangelical. We love to disobey the Word of God. So if someone prophesy, the person has automatically become a Pastor ? I am pleading with you all to abide by the Word. No where God ordains any woman as a leader or a pastor in the Bible. Jesus could have chosen a woman as one of His disciples! if it was in the will of the Father. Stop sinning
The one thing I disagree with is when you said you don’t believe in women pastors. The Bible clearly states that in the last day men will raise up their sons and daughters to prophesy.
The Word clearly states that leaders in the church are men. If you read the qualifications of pastors and elders, they always refer to them as “he.”
FYI, your using the word “heresy” wrong. It’s not a verb. It’s a noun. It means “sect.” And I’m assuming that since you seem so well versed in scripture that you showed Mrs. Meyers the proper love, honor, and respect by going to her first with your issues before blasting her publicly with hearsay and small sections most likely taken out of context. Right???
We are told in Scripture to expose and avoid false teachers. I am doing both. If you notice in the article, I use very credible and well respected sources. These are not “opinions” of mine.
FYI… she is contradicting God Word, by her actions, and she is making money off her word. not God’s … We are to obey God rather than man…. would she give up all that wealth for God… FYI” I think not… I have never liked her behavior, and never will , the respect, honor and love needs to go to God all that money, and all the treasures she is storing on this earth will rust and corrupt…
Actually Jesse, you are incorrect. heresy can be used as a verb, as in old English many Christians were charged with heresy (an action) and then labeled a heretic, and martyred for their so called crime. As to going to an individually privately, that is a method used for a brother, or sister on a personal, or moral issue which affects you, them, or someone close to you. However this method of approach is not used when dealing with a false teacher. If you look up examples of a false teacher they are almost always rebuked publicly. thank you J
geri , has every right to critisize meyers. even here in australia we know that she preaches a false unbiblical doctrine, skewering doctrine for the love of money – just as the apostle peter warned would happen. it is pure apostasy to add completely made up stories and pass it off as biblical canon. meyer is a money grubbing opostate who endangers the salvation of those too gullible to know biblical fact from fiction. God commanded the jews twice not to add or subtract anything from the torah. the same applies to N.T. where does it say Jesus went to hell ect? this is pure blasphemy. as for money , cant meyer live modestly? 30 % of all children in the Holy Land go to school each day with no food in their bellies. perhaps she might consider feeding widows and orphans instead of building a financial empire in a world ruled by satan and pencilled in for destruction. meyer is a modern day pharrisee. geri , has every right to openly critisize false teachers amongst the flock – she is a rightious teacher and can teach and testify to me anytime she wants. God bless you Gerri philip marsh ballarat australia.
Dear brother……I really do not consider myself a “teacher” but a writer. I just write what I feel the Lord wants me to write. I am not in authority over any man. I know that you were complimenting me, and I do appreciate that. Just wanted to clarify what my ministry is. God bless……..

i AM NO MYER FAN…BUt one thing I ask you…how many destitute kids have you supported with soup kitchens, food and hope and a hug…,school shoes…school cases…hOW MANY AIDS VICTIMS HAVE YOU GIVEN HEALTH CARE FROM YOUR POCKET…how many outreaches to poor people and giving them an education have you done in the name of Jesus? How many people have you led to the Lord….what ministry do you have….is it not perhaps God that supplied her greatly becaue she gave lovingly, and spent millions on the poor, sick homeles and destitute…what have you done in comparrison?YES,SHE MIGHT HAVE SAID SOME UNSCRIPTURAL THINGS,AS WE ALL SOME TIMES DO….but yet she proclaims Christ as Lord and rissen….the same measure you use to judge someone,God will also judge you with…how many times in this posting have you proclaimed Christ as Lord and Saviour….how has this post of yours saved soeone and elevated Christ….What did you “preach”?Christ as the crucified….or Joyce Myer as heretic? What is your focus….man and thier mistake that Jesus paid for in full, forgetting what Christ did…or is your focus Christ as Lord and Saviour and grace of God…
I write many articles on Jesus Christ, and that He is the only way to heaven. I also write to expose heretical teaching, which leads a person away from the Word and in many cases away from Salvation through Christ alone. If you are asking me if I am perfect – there is only one perfect One and His name is Jesus Christ. Joyce Meyer is teaching millions of people a false gospel and many people are calling her out on this. Blessings in Jesus……
Wow, you sound so angry. Maybe you should write articles?
Christ did NOT go to hell and have to be “born again” – that is heresy!!
Teachers will be judged harshly, and Ms. Meyer will have to answer for her false teaching and her lavish lifestyle. As I’ve said many times, I do not believe that preachers should live as paupers, but they should NOT be millionaires!!
? could she give all these riches… she has deliberately gone against God’s Word….
Judge not , lest ye be judged, lest ye have that same mote in your eye… as a woman I am not preaching in the church, nor making money and living a lavish life… you can’t pick some points in the Bible and ignore the rest…The Bible is God’s Word , not Joyce’s….
I told the truth from very credible websites. Also, if you read the excerpt at the beginning, you will see that I’m not judging her salvation – only her teaching. I did not make these things up and I am NOT judging. Sorry that you cannot see this. Perhaps if you read the Word and truly study it, you will see that her teachings do not line up with God’s Word.
That someone is giving ill-gotten wealth to the poor does not mean he/she is acceptable to God. God honours His Word more than His name. For someone to blatantly twists His word for gain and profit thereby and give it to the so called poor is lair that need repentance.
Luke 18:18-30New International Version (NIV)
The Rich and the Kingdom of God
18 A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
19 “Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’[a]”
21 “All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
23 When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy. 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! 25 Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
26 Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
27 Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
28 Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”
29 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God 30 will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.”

Completely off topic, but judging by your name, are you perchance of Romanian lineage? That said, I also agree with your conclusions regarding the current state of Spiritual leaders today.
My husband is Romanian, I am Ukrainian.
I have heard Joyce preach in person. I need to read more about her in order to agree with this information but I pray it is not true. The only evangelist I follow and trust is the Rev. Dr. Billy Graham. I believe he has always preached the gospel and is a true man of God.
Reblogged this on Under The Shadow of His Wing.
Words have a way of having different meanings to different people. Words are so defining and confining. But God’s truth cannot be put into just mere words. What is the truth? What is the true message that God has revealed through his word? Is the overall message that He wanted us to know:
1. Whether Jesus stopped being the Son of God?
2. Whether Jesus was born again?
3. Whether Jesus paid for our sins in hell?
4. Whether Jesus went to hell in our place and was tormented? and so on………………………
No! The message is Jesus died for our sins therefore we no longer need a blood sacrifice for our sins. It is done. Are any of these questions going to change your mind about that? No! Then they are irrelevant.
So you believe there is a God?
You believe Jesus died for your sins?
Now what?
What does that mean for you and I?
What are you going to do differently from those that don’t believe in God?
Hopefully you will LOVE… and love like you mean it.
Love God with all your heart, mind and strength.
How will you do that?
Love the people that are around you, in your world, and in your family.
How will you do that when they are not being nice to you?
Love them anyway. Forgive them over and over and over…………..
Why would you do that? Because He tells me to.
But, How can you do that? Only with His help, His strength, His comfort, His Guidance, His healing, and His love overflowing into my heart.
By faith you willingly love and forgive without condition as the Lord does for you and you will find LIFE. (Your peace, joy, love, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, patience, and self control).
Our pastors in my church are 2 couples.
The 2 lady pastors are just as anointed and Biblical as the men!
And yes I measure all of our pastors teachings with the Word of God.
That being said I agree with everything else you said about Joyce Meyers!
Both the Apostle Peter and the Apostle Paul warned about gainsaying (money hungry) teachers and also against other kinds of false prophets/teachers!.
I do not believe that Scripture supports women being pastors. I don’t want to get into an argument with you, but I have very strong beliefs about this from the Word. God bless you.
This is where the trouble lies. Just because God calls the husband, does it automatically means he calls the wife? The Bible says” No man can take this honour to himself” Much less to give it to another. This is the tragedy of the Church today. For the fact that a woman can teach, she can hold people spell bound does not mean a call of God. There is no where in the Bible that a woman is called to the office a pastor. The Lord says I will build My Church. The Church does not belong to any pastor or any bishop. Let me lay this down- No one is the founder of any church. Today you see some men and women calling themselves founder/general overseer. Nothing like this in the Bible. Jesus says I will build my Church. It is nobody’s church. Jesus never appointed or ordained any woman not even his friends Mary and Marther! halleluyah
Agh! Hard to read this heresy but I thank God that you wrote it. I believe He put you right there in the line to hear about that vacation to expose it. So many worldly shenanigans are employed by ‘Christian’ authors to promote their books. (like one well-known pastor who had his ministry buy thousands of copies if his new book to get it on NY Times Best Seller list, thus promoting major sales).
I am sad to say but, I will, I used to like Joyce Meyer Until I realized about 20 years ago when I went to hear her during her tour in South Florida. She is all about money and, all she has done for children, feeding the hungry etc, does not excuse her “ways’ about Christianity. Be aware of Wolves on sheep’s Clothing. What I mean is very simple. Many people especially women will fall for the things she believes in. Will put there Bible aside to read her “fine” books. Great books etc but, her life reflects a non-Christian way and thinking.
It’s OK to have a Comfortable life but, that night my spirit rejected all she was saying and, I have had the gift of discernment for years now. I am NOT a jealous woman as some might think, either of her money or of her success, this is what my heart really knows that her ways, are NOT God’s Ways. I stopped reading her books that night, Be aware. Do not allow all the good she has done to blind you from the worship like many have for her. It reminds me a bit of Mary, Jesus mother and those that worship her.
