Only One Life, ‘Twill Soon Be Past by C.T. Studds

Two little lines I heard one day,
Traveling along life’s busy way;
Bringing conviction to my heart,
And from my mind would not depart;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Soon will its fleeting hours be done;
Then, in ‘that day’ my Lord to meet,
And stand before His Judgment seat;
Only one life,’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, the still small voice,
Gently pleads for a better choice
Bidding me selfish aims to leave,
And to God’s holy will to cleave;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, a few brief years,
Each with its burdens, hopes, and fears;
Each with its clays I must fulfill,
living for self or in His will;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

When this bright world would tempt me sore,
When Satan would a victory score;
When self would seek to have its way,
Then help me Lord with joy to say;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Give me Father, a purpose deep,
In joy or sorrow Thy word to keep;
Faithful and true what e’er the strife,
Pleasing Thee in my daily life;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Oh let my love with fervor burn,
And from the world now let me turn;
Living for Thee, and Thee alone,
Bringing Thee pleasure on Thy throne;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

Only one life, yes only one,
Now let me say, “Thy will be done”;
And when at last I’ll hear the call,
I know I’ll say “’twas worth it all”;
Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.

      I join with you Geri in prayer for the people of Israel, Iran and the gulf states that the Holy Spirit would lead many to the Lamb of God who takes away our sin.
      John 17:3.
      I also pray for our Loving Heavenly Father to fill you with His Love strength and healing. 💞
      Thank you for sharing the above poem with us.Time indeed is short.

    1. This was told to me by a Christian friend whom I trusted implicitly to vet this info. This just shows that we are human beings who make mistakes. I think that pointing the finger is wrong and I thank those who simply told me that this was written by Studds.

      I have been so sick with the flu and I am trying to publish things for my brothers and sisters in Christ. You don’t know what a person is going through – please keep that in mind.

      WHY do so many Christians seem to savor the mistakes that the Brethren make? Can we be kinder to one another?? I think that would make Jesus very happy with us.

  1. Hey, I would like to submit an Author Who is always inspirational & never leads us in the wrong direction & speaks in a quiet (usually) but direct voice to us & keeps the “conversation” private, never gossips & always is in tandem with whatever the Bible says. It’s just like as if Jesus just spoke to us directly but this Person doesn’t want worship. Guess Who?

      1. Please pray for the people of Israel and the people of Iran and people in the Gulf States who are being hit by a barrage of missiles from the evil leadership of Iran! PRAY GOD’S WILL BE DONE!

    Sorry you have been ill. Can you please share two or three of your most urgent prayer requests for those who are interested in lifting you and your husband up to the throne of grace? Thank you!

        Amen! There is no doubt whatsoever that His will shall most certainly prevail fully and be most definitely done in full earnest 🙂
