Will Brokered Convention Break Bernie?

The Democratic debates have been like a gruesome car crash. You don’t want to look but you just can’t help yourself.  How will this horror story end?

Bernie Sanders feels more empowered with each passing day.  He and his bros think they have it in the bag.

I hope that Bernie knows that the entire establishment Democratic Party are meeting behind closed doors – scheming and plotting -ANYTHING that will stop the Comrade Bernie train.

But I wonder if these Dems understand how dangerous a man like Bernie can be. He has his “Bros” who would gladly kill for him. He has Antifa who would do the same.

If a Brokered Convention is called, and Bernie is ousted as their candidate – well, it’s not gonna be pretty.

Will There Be a Brokered Convention? Here’s What’s Happened Before

Senator Bernie Sanders is surging. Democratic Party leaders are nervous. And his rivals are hanging on, raising speculation about a brokered or contested convention.

Every four years, party strategists, political junkies and, well, reporters ponder the question, some with dread and others with relish:

Is this the year we will finally see a brokered convention?

It has been nearly 70 years since there was a true nominating fight on the convention floor, with candidates nervously waiting for delegates to go through rounds of voting to pick the eventual candidate.

Since then, both parties have made rule changes for picking and counting delegates to avoid that situation, primarily because a nominee in a brokered convention very rarely goes on to win the general election.

Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is leading the Democratic delegate race so far, and seems poised to continue his successful primary run. But none of his seven competitors appear willing to drop out and party leaders continue to fret about a Sanders candidacy, increasing apprehension about a suspensefulconvention in Milwaukee, rather than the predictable media event Americans have grown used to.

The goal at this year’s Democratic convention is simple: capture a clear majority — 1,991, to be precise — of the 3,979 pledged delegates.

Decades ago, party bosses controlled how delegates voted, but the primary system has been democratized so that voters ultimately pick the nominee. Still, if a candidate goes into the convention with doubts about his or her viability, chaos can ensue.

Here’s what history suggests could happen.

Brokered and contested are often used interchangeably, but there are distinctions.

A brokered convention happens when a candidate fails to win a majority of delegates after the first round of voting, something that has not occurred with either party since 1952. Delegates then keep voting until a nominee is picked. In between votes, horse trading and negotiating may go on behind the scenes, with candidates promising each other the vice presidency or another job in exchange for dropping out.

A contested convention is when a candidate has a lead but is not guaranteed to secure the nomination after the first ballot, said Elaine C. Kamarck, a former member of the Democratic National Committee.

The last Democrat who won the general election after multiple rounds of voting at the convention was Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932. For Republicans, it was Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952.

Both contested and brokered conventions hinder “the candidate’s general ability to show they have a united party behind them,” said Suzanne Chod, associate professor of political science at North Central College. This year, especially, Democrats should fear either one, she said.

“The No. 1 thing on the mind of current primary voters is beating the current president, and the last thing they should want is a contested convention,” Professor Chod said. “Even if it could be fun to watch.”

For more than a century, party leaders like governors, senators and mayors controlled the delegates and picked the nominee. Most candidates saw traveling the country to seek voter and delegate support as a waste of time.

Senator Estes Kefauver learned this in 1952, when he campaigned for the Democratic nomination, said Ms. Kamarck, who wrote a book about primaries and is now a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.

Mr. Kefauver, a Tennessee liberal who led congressional hearingsinto organized crime, tried to convert his fame into a successful presidential run.

He won 12 of 15 primaries before the July convention, handily defeating his opponent, Adlai Stevenson. But the hearings that made him famous also took down several prominent Democrats.

Resentful party bosses instructed their delegates to pick Mr. Stevenson, who won the nomination after three rounds of voting but lost in the fall to Eisenhower.

Voters did not replace party bosses until after the disastrous 1968 Democratic convention in Chicago, where antiwar activists gathered in the streets to protest, in part, the nomination of Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, who was seen as the establishment candidate.

Mr. Humphrey had campaigned only for delegates while his opponents, Senators Eugene McCarthy and Robert Kennedy, sought the support of primary voters.

Mr. Kennedy, who was seen as Mr. Humphrey’s strongest rival, was assassinated before the convention. Mr. Humphrey cruised to the nomination, but protesters were beaten in front of reporters on the streets — and the violent images revealed a deeply divided party.

By 1972, Democrats had changed the rules so that when candidates won primaries, they were apportioned a certain number of pledged delegates based on the percentage of the vote they received.

For the first time, voters had a real say in the nominee, Ms. Kamarck said.

“Primaries become binding instead of merely beauty contests,” she said.

In 1980, President Jimmy Carter went into the convention having won the majority of delegates over Senator Edward M. Kennedy of Massachusetts, who had challenged him during the primary. But Mr. Kennedy would not accept defeat. At the convention, he and his operatives moved to persuade delegates to leave Mr. Carter, arguing that delegates should be free to switch allegiances.

“It was wild, totally, totally wild,” said Ms. Kamarck, who was a 30-year-old party employee at the time. “It was an all-out assault on President Carter by Senator Kennedy.”

Delegations broke out into arguments on the floor. One Kennedy supporter marched to the lectern to scream at a Carter operative when credentials for Kennedy supporters failed to arrive. The sergeant-at-arms had to separate them, Ms. Kamarck recalled.

Finally, Mr. Kennedy abandoned the effort — but humiliated Mr. Carter toward the end of the convention. Mr. Carter wanted the senator to join him onstage so they could hold hands as a sign of unity.

Instead, Mr. Kennedy forced the president to wait at the lectern while he glad-handed on the floor. He finally joined Mr. Carter onstage and shook his hand coolly.

Soon after the 1980 convention, Democrats introduced superdelegates, who could vote for the candidate of their choice, regardless of the voters, said Norman Williams, a law professor at Willamette University. That accomplished two goals: throwing support behind a candidate more favored by the establishment and increasing the show of support around a candidate to avoid another debacle.

In 2016, supporters of Mr. Sanders complained that superdelegates were symbolic of a “rigged” system that gave party leaders and donors a chance to subvert the will of voters. Democrats later amended party rules so that superdelegates would cast ballots only if there were multiple rounds of voting.

After 1980, conventions for both parties became mostly tame and so predictable that in 1996, the “Nightline” host Ted Koppel told viewers that he was leaving the Republican convention early and would treat the Democratic convention the same way.

“This convention is more of an infomercial than a news event,” he said.

History would suggest that whoever goes into the convention with 1,991 delegates is pretty much assured the nomination.

True, delegates are not robots, as Mr. Kennedy tried to argue in 1980, and party rules allow them to switch allegiances. The rules say delegates “shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.” This gives wiggle room to a delegate who may be worried that Mr. Sanders’s objectives are too far out of the mainstream to make him electable in the fall.

“Sanders is a very polarizing candidate, and as we learn more about him we’ll have to see if people develop buyer’s remorse,” Ms. Kamarck said.

It was the same dilemma Republicans faced in 2016 when Donald J. Trump became the nominee.

But like Republicans, Democrats are unlikely to overrule voters and create a situation where candidates and party operatives begin wheeling and dealing, Professor Williams said.

“Brokered conventions are a bad thing for the health of the party and democracy,” he said. “Now it’s not the voters making a choice, but the candidates or party insiders making the choice.” source

So, I might say that this will be interesting to watch unfold. But I can’t say that because there is unrest in my spirit.  MUCH Unrest.

Brethren, we must keep our eyes on Jesus. Even if things begin to look very dark, remember that He is with us and will not forsake us

I try to see the world through the eyes of the lost.  I remember the person I was before I was born again.  I think that I would have been terribly frightened.

“The Goal of Socialism is Communism” ~Vladimir Lenin – ‘FEAR’ The Bern! And Learn About His Perversions

The goal of socialism is communism. - Vladimir Lenin

Did you get that?  Is that clear enough for everyone?  This was said by the father of Communism in Russia, Vladimir Lenin.

Did you know that between Lenin and Stalin, over 100 million (100 MILLION) People were slaughtered for being dissenters?

If you didn’t know this – you KNOW IT NOW.

And if your grown children are “Feeling the Bern” as in Bernie Sanders; maybe it’s time to educated them about these Communist monsters throughout the history of the USSR.

See what Chairman Mao Zedong said:

And when Chairman Mao said “Enemy” he meant anyone who is a dissenter and not loyal to the Communist State.

Fidel Castro on Communism

“Even now we feel that Stalin was devoted to Communism, he was a Marxist, this cannot and should not be denied.”  ***(Stalin killed over 100 million people)

Kennedy on Communism

“Communism has never come to power in a country that was not disrupted by war or CORRUPTION, or both.”  (emphasis added)

Karl Marx on Communism

“The theory of Communism may be summed up in one sentence: Abolish all private property.”

Nikita Khrushchev on Communism

“There is not Communism or Marxism, but representative democracy and SOCIAL JUSTICE in a well-planned economy.” (emphasis added)

Dan Pena on Communism

“It took me 8 years to graduate from undergraduate school because I kept ‘communism from your door steps’ for 3 1/2 years in between while serving in the U.S. Army.”

Watch Ben Shapiro reveal Bernie Sanders RADICAL Ideas:

Bernie IS a Communist

I have said this until my face turns blue. I do hope and pray that SOMEONE is listening!

Bernie is perverted – wrote on Women wanting to be raped

Yep, I said PERVERTED. READ ON……..

From nypost.com

A top adviser to Mike Bloomberg said the former mayor would focus his attacks during Tuesday night’s debate on Bernie Sanders — including his bizarre writings from 1972 about women’s rape fantasies and kids fondling each other’s genitals.

“Bernie has loopy stuff in his background saying women get cancer from having too many orgasms or toddlers should run around naked and touch each other’s genitals to insulate themselves from porn?” Tim O’Brien told CNN’s “New Day,” prompting an incredulous anchor Alisyn Camerota to exclaim, “I’m sorry — what?”

“He has written about women’s rape fantasies, that hasn’t been surfaced. That’s the loony side of Bernie,” O’Brien replied.

The existence of the essay in the alternative newspaper the Vermont Freeman was first revealed by Mother Jones in 2015, when Sanders was making his first presidential run.

The Vermont senator, 78, was a regular contributor to the paper in the late 1960s and early 1970s and frequently wrote about sexual and cultural topics.

But it was the one essay from 1972 that caused the most controversy, despite Sanders’ later repudiation of his own words.

“Now, if children go around naked, they are liable to see each others sexual organs, and maybe even touch them. Terrible thing! If we [raise] children up like this it will probably ruin the whole pornography business, not to mention the large segment of the general economy which makes its money by playing on people’s sexual frustrations,” Sanders wrote.  (emphasis)

He also shared his bizarre view of what goes on in people’s heads when they were having sex.

“A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy. A woman on her knees, a woman tied up, a woman abused. A woman enjoys intercourse with her man — as she fantasizes being raped by 3 men simultaneously,” he wrote.  (emphasis added)

“Have you ever looked at the Stag, Man, Hero, Tough magazines on the shelf of your local bookstore? Do you know why the newspaper with the articles like ‘Girl 12 raped by 14 men’ sell so well? To what in us are they appealing?” he asked.  (emphasis added)

Sanders’ camp in 2015 dismissed the essay as something “stupid” Sanders wrote as a younger man and that didn’t reflect his views.

Campaign spokesman Michael Briggs called the essay a “dumb attempt at dark satire in an alternative publication” in an interview with CNN, saying it “in no way reflects his views or record on women.”

Briggs added: “It was intended to attack gender stereotypes of the ‘70s, but it looks as stupid today as it was then.”

Sanders will likely have a huge target on his back for the debate in South Carolina since emerging as the clear front-runner in most polls and winning the New Hampshire primary and Nevada caucuses.   source

Casting Pearls Before Swine

I was born again in 1983, yet I never fully understood this passage of Scripture until now:

“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you” (Matthew 7:6)

How I learned from the Holy Spirit exactly what our Lord Jesus was teaching broke my heart.  But I still rejoiced in the lesson from our King.

Most of the readers know that I am an ethnic Jew who came to know Jesus (Yeshua) as Savior and Lord in 1983.  I am rejected by most of my family. The Lord saved my dad and used this willing vessel to share all about Jesus with him. The seed fell on fertile ground, and I was given the amazing privilege of leading him to the Throne of Grace before he died.

This passage of Scripture has helped sustain me during stormy times with my family:

“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it” (Matthew 10:34-39).

About a month ago, I had my yearly physical and received some pretty startling news.  My bloodwork showed that my kidneys were struggling to do their job in my body.

My kidney function numbers were very bad.  The story that these numbers told was that I was in stage 3 of kidney disease. If it progressed to state 4, I would have either needed to go on dialysis or find a living donor.

My precious husband immediately told me that he would donate one of his kidneys if it came to needing this.  My blood type is AB+ (pretty rare) but having this blood type makes me a universal recipient  which means that I can accept blood or organs from all blood types; so my husband’s kidney would have worked in me.

My Doctor schedules a new blood draw

My doctor wrote to me on my patient portal and gave me instructions about my diet and other things which would impact kidney function. He told me that I could not take Advil or any ibuprofen products for my arthritis – only Tylenol – and sparingly.

He also told me that I had to be on a low potassium diet. And he scheduled another blood draw for the 24th of this month (3 weeks from first one) to see how things were going.

I began researching CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) on all of the top medical sites including Mayo Clinic and Kidneyfoundation.org.  What I was reading was alarming to me. It basically said that if your kidneys had lost a percentage of function; the best they could do was to help the body to slow down the progression of the disease.

From kidneyfoundation.org

When a patient is diagnosed with stage 3 CKD, an eGFR of 38-45 and an estimated loss of 40% of kidney function, can this be reversed with proper treatment? Once chronic kidney damage has been done, this is not reversible. … Once you have reached Stage 3 chronic kidney disease (CKD), it is unlikely this will be reversed.

In other words, you can’t get back the part of the kidney that has failed.  I just stared at this in disbelief.  But I got off of Advil and went to the Kidney Foundation site to educate myself on eating a lower potassium diet.

My GFR was 45 and I had to come to terms that this meant that I had permanently lost 40% of my kidney function. Also, an important test had been done on my Urea Nitrogen.  The test showed it to be “29” when the standard range was 7 – 22.

New Blood Draw 3 weeks later

I went in for the new blood work. The lady who draws blood is a Christian and we are very close. I told her that my numbers were so awful and that I was losing function of my kidneys. She said to me “After I draw the blood, I will pray over you.”

After closing the door to her room and then drawing blood, she placed the vial of blood in my hand and then put her hands over mine and she began to pray. It was a powerful prayer.  She used Scriptures. I was crying.

She prayed for my numbers to be so much better, that the doctors would scratch their heads and be in disbelief!  We hugged and I went home.

When I  received the results, I knew that it was a miracle by God’s hand.

I went from 29 (really bad) on one test (Urea Nitrogen) to 10!!! And my GFR which measures the amount of kidney function left jumped 6 points!!

That’s not supposed to happen according to the kidneyfoundation.org.

Sharing the Miracle with Family Members

Needless to say, I was rejoicing at receiving this healing from God’s hand. All my doctor said was this:

“good evening – creatinine better and urine assessments normal – no further testing needed.” He wrote that to me on my patient portal.

I smiled when I pictured his face as he saw that my GFR score had jumped to 51! He is not a Christian.

My Family

I knew that those who are not believers in my family were very concerned for me. But when they scoffed at a “Miracle” one by one they did; I realized why the Lord told us not to cast our pearls before swine.

It’s a terrible thing to think of that Scripture in relation to immediate family – but we need to know that whenever a person (whomever they are) rejects the Lord Jesus over and over and over – they fall into the category of “swine” as the Lord said.

Until the unbelieving in our families repent and trust the Lord Jesus for their Salvation – anything we say that gives God the glory will be rejected, or as Jesus said “Trampled underfoot.”  They are in darkness and will remain there until/unless they are born again.

This saddened me, but taught me a lesson too. And it strengthened my resolve to Pray for each of the lost in my family even harder.

How Can I Be Saved?

Chris Matthews Who Had A Tingle Up His Leg With Obama – Now Has Chills Down His Spine With Bernie: NEVER BERNIE MOVEMENT?

We know that something is REALLY wrong when Chris Matthews of MSNBC is wondering if 4 more years of Trump may seem more palatable than Socialist Bernie Sanders taking over the Democratic Party.

I admit that the leftist news source personalities having a melt down over Bernie Sanders does surprise me a bit. I thought that they would be on board with whomever would come out on top.

That seems to not be the case.

From Westernjournal.com

Never Bernie? MSNBC Anchor Wonders if Dems Should Prefer 4 More Years of Trump

In early 2016, after it had become apparent that then-candidate Donald Trump was on a trajectory to capture the GOP’s nomination, many establishment Republicans went into a frenzy.

The so-called Never Trump movement was born and many establishment Republicans did what was once unthinkable — they supported Hillary Clinton’s bid for the presidency.

Four years later, with a lifelong, self-avowed “democratic socialist” as the clear front-runner to grab the Democratic Party’s nomination, traditional Democrats are finding themselves in a similar situation.

Should they cede the White House for four more years and live to fight another day? Could Bernie Sanders do so much damage to the Democratic Party that it might never recover?

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews sure thinks so. Like many Never Trumpers in 2016 with the populist New Yorker’s candidacy, the left-wing TV personality is wondering if many Democrats would rather see their opposition elected — or in this case, re-elected.

It has been no secret in recent weeks that establishment Democrats — including Matthews — are growing concerned as Sanders racks up delegates — especially after the big Sanders win in the Nevada caucuses on Saturday. But now, he and other Democrats are discussing whether their best play might be to let the Republicans win this one.

During Saturday’s coverage of the Nevada Caucuses, in which Sanders grabbed 10 delegates and won with nearly 50 percent of the vote, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Matthews weighed in.

“I’m wondering whether the Democratic moderates want Bernie Sanders to be president,” the “Hardball” host said, as the Washington Examiner noted.

“That’s maybe too exciting a question to raise. They don’t like Trump at all. Do they want Bernie Sanders to take over the Democratic Party in perpetuity? I mean, he takes it over, he sets the direction of the future of the party,” he said.

“Maybe they’d rather wait four years and put in a Democrat that they like,” he added.

Matthews said establishment Democrats are concerned that in nominating Sanders, they could be “losing the future.”

He also warned that if establishment Democrats hope to stop Sanders by coalescing around a single moderate candidate, that time is now.

He specifically questioned the idea that Sanders “moderate” competitors — Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, former South Bend, Illinois, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, former Vice President Joe Biden, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg — would unite around a Sanders alternative.

“If the four moderates, and we call them all ‘moderates’ because they’re not Bernie, we’re talking about Amy [Klobuchar], we’re talking about Buttigieg, we’re talking about Biden — we might be talking about Bloomberg as well,” he said.

“If they can’t agree now which one of them is going to be the nominee, they’re going to somehow agree at the second ballot of the convention?” he asked.

According to Matthews, the only hope for the establishment Democrats to stop Sanders might be a brokered convention. But, he worries even that might not be enough.

Are we witnessing the birth of the “Never Bernie” movement?

Up until now, there has been plenty of analysis regarding the unwillingness of moderate Democrats to embrace Sanders’ style of “socialism,” but there hasn’t been a lot of chatter suggesting that four more years of Trump might be more preferable to the establishment left than a President Sanders.

While there are a few Never Trump stalwarts still opposing the president on social media and on cable news, Trump has proven to be a solid conservative, and has stayed true to many of his campaign promises.

Trump also made no promises to radically transform the country and has a historically strong economy to run on.

He currently holds a 93 percent approval rating among Republicans, and a 43 percent approval rating among independents, according to recent Gallup poll numbers.

Sanders, meanwhile, has promised a complete government takeover of America’s health care system, promised to abolishthe agencies that protect the country’s borders and has vowed to cancel all student loan debt, among other proposals.

Many of these proposals are so far-left, a great deal of Democrats want nothing to do with them.

Former campaign strategist and political commentator James Carville, who was instrumental in helping former President Bill Clinton get elected in 1992, told MSNBC in early February that Democrats need to “wake up and make sure that we talk about things that are relevant to people,” according to The Hill.

“[Sanders has] never been a Democrat. He’s an ideologue,” Carville later told Vox.

Earlier this month, Sanders attacked Carville over the Louisiana Democrat’s blistering criticisms of the Vermont senator’s campaign by calling him a “hack” on CNN.

“At least I’m not a communist,” Carville responded, according to The Hill.

Carville, like Matthews, is representative the more moderate wing of the Democratic Party. And moderate Democrats seem to be ramping up their attacks on Sanders.

When James Carville insults the Democratic Party’s clear front-runner by demeaning him as a “communist,” there is trouble brewing.

The question is: How committed are moderate Democrats in their opposition to Sanders? Only time will tell if we are witnessing the inception of a Never Bernie movement.

As the primary plays out, we will get a better sense for how devoted Democrats such as Matthews and Carville are to their resistance to Sanders. It is only February, after all. source

Brethren, isn’t it so sad when people back themselves into corners little by little, until they realize that what they thought was good and right is actually horrible and frightening?  This is where people like Chris Matthews find themselves today.

Pray for all involved. Pray for our president. Pray for the media.

Pray for America.
